Unexpected visitor downrange

A few years ago, at the range, a groundhog wandered out. Through the scope I could see he had more ticks on him than hair. Yes, I shot him. I could see he was sick. The shot was "sanctioned" by three other members. That critter was...miserable. Never seen that many ticks on one animal. ever

I've seen all kinds of critters at my range. I was told that the way to get the deer to leave was to walk downrange while holding the trashcan. Apparently the deer aren't afraid of rifles but they are afraid of trashcans.

On a different day I was shooting a .22 at the pistol range and a squirrel walked up and decided to take a dust bath. He was enjoying himself until a red fox trotted up the driveway. The squirrel wisely decided it was a good time to leave.

The really odd thing is that my range is Holmesburg and is basically part of Philadelphia. I might expect the animals in a more rural area but not there.

Foxes get around. Some of the shooters in the UK hunt them within cities using NV and silenced rifles.
They are a pest species here in Australia.
I recently saw a rare variant on a freeway into the CBD here in Sydney. Vulpes Vulpes Flattus. :p

Deer seem a lot smarter than you think sometimes. Always around when you are not hunting.
