Thanks Old Fuff, learned a lot from you and rcmodel among others from haunting the forums as well.
FWIW, The gunsmiths on staff at Brownells have also been helpful in the past to figure out workarounds at times even if they do not ultimately have the part. Numrich and Sarco over the phone depends on who you get. Numrich has an online forum that is a good place to ask their staff about odd parts questions that I have found superior to their phone service.
Oh, nearly forgot to mention, Jack First (at least prior to the whole Arms Treaty business) also fabricates parts for those true unicorns and orphans. There are a few others that will fabricate small parts but I have simply stumbled upon them looking for other parts.
My rare unicorns that took about two years to acquire was a MAS 36 barrel in original caliber (came in yesterday in fact) and good shape and a P14 Enfield original ejector spring (it is different that the 1917 spring) and had to use a field expedient design until then. Found them over time by checking everywhere. As far as the MAS 36 barrel, I was about to give up and have the gunsmith turn down a 6.5x55 Large Ring Mauser barrel and have it threaded to the action.
