United Pilot Flushes Ammo

I suppose a logical reasonable response is out of the question. After all a round of ammo may have been smuggled off the plane. There is no telling how much death and destruction could have been caused if not for the actions of these brave men.

An edit to my previous post. The passengers were allowed to leave the plane.

.
lol Ron, I hear you.

That said, and with all due respect, why are there loose rounds rolling around in your truck? That's just plain wasteful... :D

In all seriousness, I'm joking with you.

:)
They escape. Seriously, for example, went over my friends to test fire a few 22 rifles, one I planned to sell. Tossed a few baggies of assorted 22 LR in console. Fired maybe a dozen rounds, rifle worked fine. Tossed baggies back in console and forgot all about them. Never gave it another thought. Found them yesterday as I began cleaning the truck all for this NY trip.

Her truck seldom if ever sees any of my gun stuff. We have taken insanity and fear to new levels along with stupidity. Several years ago my wife's luggage was flagged at CLH (Cleveland Hopkins). One suitcase she was using for a trip to Arizona was stored under my loading bench so hell yes, I am sure some powder kernals trickled down onto it. The suitcase was brushed off, cleaned and away Kathleen went... Right till TSA morons converged on her all because a dog triggered on the case. They went through it, they went through it and they went through it again. Nothing, nothing and nothing. They questioned her to the point she told them to literally F off and she never uses that word. She did tell them her husband reloads ammunition and her suitcase was in close proximity to my loading "stuff".

Overall, the war is over and the terrorist have won. :)

The TSA once missed my Zippo which I accidentally left in my carry-on bag. I figured keeping my mouth shut was better than trying to flush it somewhere over Maryland.

:D

p.s. On the return trip I put it in my checked bag.

Think about it, really think about it. How sad is that? Always used a zippo, smoked on flights, actually enjoyed flights. Never gave a thought to my pocket knife.

This is all security theater and zero risk tolerance approaches - common sense has long gone out the window. Everyone in government over-reacts. Whether this was an overreaction, it's hard to say.

It is concerning that some ammo was introduced onto a plane where it should not have been, and the pilot's solution was to first apparently put it in the garbage, not particularly secure apparently. Then to flush it in the toilet.

So, to account for every bullet, painstaking steps were taken. And I too would wear a hazmat suit searching through sewage.

On the other hand, we all know that the security checkpoints are swiss-cheese. In tests here TSA failed 95% of the time to detect weapons and explosives at checkpoints!!!! They MISSED 67 our of 70 tests. :fire::banghead::what: http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/01/politics/tsa-failed-undercover-airport-screening-tests/

So, I'm not too worried about 10 or less bullets in the sewage tank of an aircraft.

Not to mention that they have no way to know if they found them all since they have to take the pilots word for how many he flushed.

Yeah he should have done the proper thing....like throw the cartridges out of the little window in the cockpit....do the windows even open on a 747?....foiled again! This is funny three pages about a stupid pilot, over reacting officials and should i wear a suit while filtering poop? ( can you use that word here?) moderator feel free to change to "human waste" if thought to be traumatic to a reader.

I guess since the craft was grounded, moved to a remote location and fire personnel were deployed I thought along the lines of fire or explosive protective suits not so much hasmat.
The tank could have been screened by the regular service personnel without the big dog and pony show.

Yes it could have. But airline personnel or authorities didn't know beforehand what might be mixed with the "bullets" beyond human waste products.

Has anyone ever seen the "Amnesty Drum" in Singapore airport? Bring in illegal drugs and get caught, you get your choice, Hanging or Firing Squad. I dropped a cig butt on the sidewalk outside airport, almost got took to jail, and had all my chewing gum confinscated when I arrived because it's illegal.

Wow! We ought to go shooting someday, I'd like to hear more.

Years ago I was walking down the street in London - cold day wearing down vest I use for squirrel hunting - reached in my pocket and felt a familiar shape - I knew the danger - furtively wrapped the item in a used kleenex and dropped it in a receptacle - did not break stride but might have had a bead of sweat on my brow. Stupid freaking people.

When I foreign travel now - I do not wear range or hunting clothing.

Seriously, if ammunition had been concealed in the waste tank, what other contraband could have been concealed there? C4, det cord, blasting caps?

My son and DIL took vacation to Niagra Falls (New York) and into Canada and he agreed it would be wise to take a rental vehicle rather than his personal SUV. I could probably do a detail search on my truck and find empties or live rounds fallen in unusual places. As well as tools that might be construed as weapons in a totally alien foreign jurisdiction. Like New York. BTW the Canadians my son and DIL met were all friendly and hospitable.

I know darn well my pickup wouldn't pass a crossing into Canada, or New York for that matter. Too many empty shotgun shells and empty .22LR brass rolling around under the seats.

I love Singapore. Walk through the park at 2 AM and never give crime a thought.

Yeah, and it seems Singapore does not have an illegal drug problem. Go figure? Yeah, enjoyed my visits there years ago. :)

JHS1 GOT IT EXACTLY RIGHT, if the story is true the airport security had no options, its the law and its very clear.
If the pilot dumped ammo in the toilet he should be fired! That toilet holding tank has to be cleaned out and the contents disposed of, I know! At one point in my early career I sometimes helped emptying the tanks, not a fun job. The disposal methods vary but it wasn't fair to the poor mechanic that would have had to unload that tank. JHs1 pointed out s scenario that is totally possible. I suspect he might work in aviation too.

The scenario that someone could have smuggled a gun without ammo and needed someone else to bring ammo for them? Guns come with ammo storage so you don't need someone else to flush it down a toilet where you can't even get to it. This was pure security theater.

The idea of a commercial pilot flushing live rounds down an aircraft toilet is almost hard to believe - until you've spent a few years working with commercial pilots. I used to think you had to be a pretty smart dude to be a pilot. Nothing could be further from the truth.
