All,

My friend has an old top break revolver, approx. 40 caliber, center-fire. There are no identifying manufacturer's marks or serial #. Please see the attached image.

There appears to be one or more proof marks as follows:

(1) "ELG" with a surmounted five-pointed star all inside an oval.
(2) separate "Z" with a similar five-pointed star (no oval).

Both markings occur on the rear face of the cylinder, outside of the ejector star.

Does anyone have any idea of who made the revolver and when?

Thanks,
Eric Berman

It's Belgian, that's for sure. Hopefully someone else will have useful information. It's a beautiful revolver!

Looks to be a .32 or .38 (more likely) copy of the S&W top-break, as copied by Iver Johnson etc.

Can you give any dimensions? ELG simple denotes that it was made in Belgium.

Have you taken the grips off to check for markings?
