As usual, a trip to the range today netted some extra brass to bring home. I re-load for 45ACP. While inspecting the lot, I started noticing one particular headstamp that had all of the primers strike marks that looked like the firing pin had been dragged across them. Since they were all the same headstamp, I concluded that whomever had the lane before me and did not pick up his/her brass probably had a gun that was doing this. I always inspect my own brass for signs of under/over pressures so I pay attention to firing pins marks. What could cause this or is this normal for some pistols? These were 45 ACP.

The Glock firing pin leaves an elongated mark, but a dropping barrel pistol with actual firing pin drag means that the gun is opening before the firing pin can retract. That can be due to a weak firing pin spring or to high pressure.

My Sig p220 left light firing pin drag marks and was told that is normal for them. Glocks leave a centered rectangular mark, a round strike stretched off center is drag.
