Hello South Africans. I have come across an article that alleges that 300.000 citizens failed to renew their firearm permit, and according to a new Costitutional Court ruling, their firearms may be confiscated.

https://citizen.co.za/news/south-af...ome-300-000-gun-owners-to-turn-in-their-guns/

I come from the Czech Republic where the rules are quite straightforward. We need to renew our license periodically too, it mostly means filing a request, getting OK from general practitioner and showing up at the station with all guns for check-up.

Why were South Africans failing to renew their licenses?

Do you expect mass confiscations now?

Outside the scope of this forum so all I can suggest is do some googling about an ongoing barbaric genocide against farmers and their families there. Then you'll get the picture.

I can say, with certainly, that most of those farmers are going to put up a helluva fight if the, uh, "government" there tries to confiscate their guns.

Unfortunately no one wants to admit what an absolute failure the ending of apartheid has been for everyone there no matter what their race. The ones who can get out are heading for China since the Anglosphere won’t let them in.

Met a few South African refugees last time I was in Hong Kong and they had some wild stories of what was going on there. I think the ones who have the means to are fleeing the country and the ones who can’t get out are preparing for a civil war of sorts.

It’s very sad that one would have to hold a permit to own a gun in the first place but it happens even here in America ergo the FOID card in Illinois. Our Founders acknowledged natural rights were endowed by our Creator. Our constitution merely enumerated these rights; it did not grant them. They held as do I that government does not confer rights; God does.

It could be that some Afrikaners see what is coming on the horizon and have decided to cease participation in a system that will bring about their own demise. In other words, you’re darned if you do and darned if you don’t so the heck with it.

Best I can tell from the outside looking in is that the place has regressed to a tribal gang type mentality where there is widespread lawlessness and the government has little control or maybe no interest in controlling criminal activity. I don't know why people there are not renewing their firearms permits in such numbers. It might be that the criteria for renewal has changed so much that it would be pointless. I feel bad for that particular country. It used to be even with all its flaws that it was the best run country in all of Africa and it is just destroying itself now.

Maybe they know it will be used to either confiscate their firearms, confiscate their property moreso than is already being done now or the permitting process will be used to create a list of candidates for re-education camps.

The minority should have left years ago after the system changed.

I would have to agree with this. Now all eyes are on the Afrikaners and no one will take them. Perhaps they should invade Europe as those “ migrants “ from the Middle East have been doing.

I don't quite get why no one wants them. Most are educated and hard working, and would make fine additions to just about any country. I suspect the idea was to force them to stay there so they would have to support the new government because I think everyone knew if they left it would collapse almost instantly.

The aspects of how they came to power in S. Africa be they real or perceived and apartheid has them relegated to social pariah status. Their utility as productive citizens to a given country does not trump the past in these times. SA is already in collapse.

If there isn't a clearer sign to pack your bags & flee I don't know what is.
I've heard a radio clip of at least one "party member" saying in effect that they're going to be killed - and they will not be given an opportunity to leave.

If there are any justifications for foreign intervention - with force if needed - it is in South Africa right now.

However, I think as things progress there will be a significant portion of the military and police that will probably spit and a civil war will ensure anyway.

Except many have been there for multiple generations on their land. The Government, besides confiscating guns, has plans to confiscate the farm land from one ethnic group and give it to another. As to why they are not renewing their permits, maybe they are beginning to think like preppers do here and the less the government knows what they have the less they can confiscate. (You know, LOTS of boating accidents)

It is a shame that in a few short years they went from being the food basket of Africa to an importer of food

There are plenty of reasons why folks in SA would not renew their licenses, but those reasons and the direction this thread is going are both off topic.
