Thanks to all who weighed in last month with suggestions for my 1950’s Marlin 336. I ended up using a Warne Maxima one piece base and Leupold rifleman low rings. Cheek wield is outstanding and the entire setup (scope is a Leupold 1-4X20) only added .7lbs.

This is exactly the low setup I was looking for. On 1X this thing is just as fast as an Aimpoint. Behold the mule deer brush gun:

.......... That's the way I like 'em on a lever gun. And I love being able to take advantage of that 1X setting when needed. It's quick indeed ! And 4x is plenty for anything that I'll use a .30-30 for. IMHO a 1-4X 20mm is perfect in this role. I think I may prefer the looks of those Leupold Rifleman low rings compared to the low, old school Weaver rings currently on my Marlin. They are definitely sharp! IMG_3209.JPG

A variable w a 1-2X on the low end is pretty darn sweet in the sticks.
Makes movers easy.
I run an old .35 rem pump (Rem 760)) and went w Rifleman low rings.
The stock comb designed for iron sight usage.
But w scope mounted low its entirely usable.
Glad to see a proper scope setup on your rig :)
I see them come into my LGS w see through rings. Old rigs.
And some folks setting up new ones like that.
