Just a quick note to say thanks to the 6 or 7 of you who were so kind to send get well cards as well as monetary contributions to help out BluesBear. This is his friend/neighbor and he appreciates you more than you know. He has been moved to an assisted living facility where he will be for the next 3 months while he is in his body cast for his broken back. He is not in as much pain as he was and his arm is coming along nicely after surgery. It still remains to be seen if he will get full function out of it since it was broken in the joint and they had to put screws in.

But, for the most part, he is doing well. I will include the address and phone number where he is for those who wish the information. Hopefully before long he will be able to sit up and use his computer and be back with you all soon. Take care and thanks again for all you have done to help.

What happened to him?

I missed any previous message about his accident. What happened to him? I'm trying to remember any mention of riding motorcycles but can't.

I, too, missed the initial reports.

Thanks for posting here, Lady. Please keep us updated!

What Happened to BluesBear

As some of you missed the initial post, and per your request, here is what happened to BluesBear. He had a fall off the balcony at his apartment. He fell over the railing and down about 12-14 feet to the asphalt below. Come to find out the railing was below code....go figure.

Anyway, he broke is left elbow in the joint and had to have surgery and screws/plates. Some of you may not know that in addition to being a gun enthusiastist, he is a musician. To date the jury is still out as to whether he will ever be able to play again. :( He also broke a vertebrae in his back in three places and is in a body cast for at least 3 months.

He is out of the hospital now and in an assisted living home. His/our landlord has terminated his lease so I am trying to pack up his stuff and get him moved. He may be able to get out of the nursing home earlier if we can find a place on one level and I have agreed to help take care of him. But, since he is not working now and any disability he might get has not finished the paperwork stage yet, finances are a problem. Thanks to a few of you kind members, we have started a small fund for that purpose, but it is not near enough accomplish our goal. But all contributions have been greatly appreciated.

He has an attorney and some day he may be able to buy all the guns he wants out of this accident!!!

Anyway, for those of you that asked...that is the story. Please feel free to write or call as he is with a bunch of old people and not much to do to entertain himself.

.....the phone number is a direct private line so feel free to call any time or hour....

Take care and God Bless.....and thank you all again!!!!

Thank you, Lady45. I do feel sorry for him. Is the moving still in progress? I'll skip the gun show this weekend and give a hand, should that be a help. And I smell a rat here. Landlord has defective railings, a tenant falls due to same, and landlord gives him the boot? Maybe there are times attorneys should file suit. But don't get me started on John Edwards' various lawsuits.

So John is his name? Does he have access to internet? In my mind, I see a guy with a big plaster-wrapped belly, trying to balance a laptop on it and type with one hand. All is well until he reaches for the Bud Light. Then the slide, the spill, the cussing. And the wait for somebody to pick it all up.

Who could be called Burien Bart, and that only makes sense to those near Puget Sound.

What tha.....
This is the first I have heard of Blues Bear's misfortune. I hope he recvers quickly and completely.

Are you going to set up a paypal account for controbutions? I'm in.

How much below code is the railing?

Just heard! I am REALLY sorry. Get yourself healed up BluesBear!

Logistar

That's terrible! I hope he recovers fully and can play again. I too didn't know what was up. There was some cryptic post about a week ago saying that there was some new information, but I didn't even know what the old information was!

Best wishes!

Update of the Update on BluesBear

Just wanted to write a quick note to say thanks again for all your wells wishes and support. To date several people have called and talked to Bear....and it has helped his morale tremendously. He has received about $250 from donations and if anyone wishes to send....a PayPal account has been activated under the email address [email protected].

If we can raise enough funds for him, he will be able to recooperate at home instead of the assisting living home. But, he needs a home without steps in order to do that. To date we just do not have enough funds. We are trying to get his computer to him sometime this week....so maybe you will see him here soon. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers and if you have a moment to call, his spirits can use a kind inspiration from his friends here.

the number is 206-624-3690 and is a direct line to his room.

In the mean time.....he misses you all and thanks you greatly for all you have done.

Sorry to hear about Bluesbear, I will remember him in my prayers. I especially hope he can resume his musical profession and not just for the money but for the satisfaction of being able to do what he loves..best wishes

hes gonna have a tough time flying with screws in his back...unless they are ones that wouldnt get picked up by a metal detector.

i hope he has a good recovery.

response to flying with screws

He had surgery on his elbow/arm and that is where the screws are. They are the kind that will not set off the metal detectors....he already asked the doc.....LOL

They opted not to do surgery on his back at this time. He has 3 noticeable fractures to the T-12 vertebrae...(the last thoraxic before the lumbars) Because they are all in the "meaty" part of the bone and the fragments are small....they say the body will absorb the fragments....so they opted for a fiberglass body cast....called a turtle shell. It can be removed occasionally for cleaning and adjustment...but otherwise he has to wear it at all times.

They will follow up the healing process for 3 months in this body cast....and if all goes well he will not have to have surgery. If not they will drop back and punt at that time. The biggest problem is that we are having the biggest heat wave in over a decade here and the care center has no air conditioning....it was 96 here today....they expect it to last another day or two....great!!!!! He calls it his "turkey baster" LOL

Anyway...that is the story and I am sticking to it!!!

Lady45

Talked to Blues Bear today...

He sounds great!
Very positive, great attitude, sends his best to all.

He hates the heat wave and being in the "turkey baster" , 3 fans blowing, still not enough. Hopes to get his computer soon, that old "better to have it and not need it " dealie...only so much on TV he...gets tired of TV.

Appreciates the phone calls and cards...

Gary Someone dropped me an email. Sorry to hear about your serious accident. :(
I hope you heal quickly and are able to pick right back up where you left off.

All the best

BTT:D

"Bear" down on the phys therapy. I know it's painful and tedious, but the more you sweat now, the better you'll boogie later, best wishes for a spedy recovery 'in the mail'.

Out on a Limb for a Bear

Okay....here is the latest on BluesBear. .....

He cannot sit long enough to be online, so the doc said no computer in his room....so will be a while before he can be back with you. Personally, I think it is the stupid chairs at the nursing home and the fact that 1) they think he might disturb the other patients....like they are even of this world most of the time (sorry); or 2) he would have to have a special chair that they are not willing to pay for; or 3) and probably the most real of them...they do not want to be responsible for his personal belongings.

Oh well, that is the least of his worries at this time. He is just fed up with the whole situation and getting very depressed. It is HOT and no air...3 fans in the room and he is still roasting....they are having trouble with their ice machine keeping up for all the guests....go figure. Guess Seattle is not used to the heat wave. Then....he was scheduled for a follow-up for his surgery on his elbow...2 weeks after he left the hospital....that was on the 16th.....still nothing....when he asked about it...he was told they were sorta backed up in the ortho dept and it would be the 12th before he could get an appointment. Then yesterday during a shower, the plastic bag covering his arm got a hole in it and the cast got wet....(not saying whether it was an accident or not.....nope not me) soooo he went to the doctor today.....and spent 3 hours waiting....now they won't let him sit to get online/computer....but he can sit in a wheel chair for 3 hours waiting for a doctor's appointment.....go figure.

Then......the beaurocratic red tape......the hand does not know what the foot is doing......sound familiar. The paperwork for his disability and medical expenses is being done in two separate places by two different people.....you think they can coordinate.....not with government work....unh uh.....no way...can't make it easy or simple....gotta take forever and mess up a few times....whatever they can do to frustrate you.

Sooooooooo I am gonna go out on a limb here.....because I don't know what else to do. I have to get Bear outta that place before he kills someone. I just can't take watching a grown man cry.....not him at all.....and if you tell him I told you I will deny it till death. Is a good thing he does not have his guns with him or I really think he might have used one on himself the way he has been the last few days....he feels like he has let his family down and put a burden on us all......and all I can do is give him moral support.

I have agreed that if I can find a place for my kids and myself and him....that is on one level with no steps....that we are going to move in together so I can take care of him. We had talked of doing it before, but with the situation.....I see no other alternative. I drive a school bus and have some free time in the middle of the day so that I can take care of him and with my teenage son's help I think we can make it a go. My problem is coming up with the deposit and first month's rent and moving expenses on short notice. According to our attorney....Bear should be looking at a settlement within 12 -18 months of high 6 figures and possibly 7 figures after the expenses. .....if there is ANYONE out there that would be willing to contract a loan with interest either for payment when he gets his settlement.....your choice of interest.....makes no difference to me or him I am sure.......or.....if you don't want to wait that long.....could be repaid either on installments per month.....or when income tax refunds come in February of 2005.....like I said.....I am desperate here.....and am trying anything and everything to make this happen and get him out of that nursing home. He has been so good to me and my son.....I owe him....and I can guarantee that it would be a good business proposition for someone willing to negotiate a contract to help. ( the amount needed is $2500) If you have any information to share on the subject....please private message me.

Again....if I am out of line I sincerely apologize....but I am trying anything and everything to make this happen ASAP. Thanks and keep the good thoughts and prayers coming.

All right, people, Lady45's post hasn't been touched since she posted at 4:47 a.m. :scrutiny:

I'll throw in $500 to help. No interest, pay me back when you can. Who else is willing to chip in and help BluesBear and Lady45?

He's living in a sauna, uncomfortable as hell. Not exactly conducive to a fast rate of recuperation, or his mental well-being. Even at $50 a pop, it's not gonna take too many members to come up with what she needs to help BluesBear.

Lady45, PM me with an address on where to send the check to you. I'll send it out Wednesday.

This place isn't called the high road for nothin' folks. Who else is on board?
