Wondering if an original Shield can be upgraded to the 2.0 trigger...either at S&W or by a local gunsmith.

Mine is in 40S&W with a safety. Probably has 100 reds through it.

Truthfully, the trigger it has, seems pretty good.

I agree, the Apex trigger is the way to go. But only if you think it needs it. No since fixing what ain’t broke. I kick myself when I didn’t buy two or three Shield 1.0s when they were dirt cheap when the 2.0 came out. Seems those triggers in the 1.0 was pretty good compared to early ones. I wouldn’t have changed them I liked it so much.

The original Shield still does what it was designed to do. Incremental improvement is good, but it doesn't make the original less capable. If trigger is modified, safer to use a provider that designed it for that purpose rather than use parts from a later model that may have incorporated other changes as well.

Add another one to the Apex trigger fan club. I upgraded the trigger on my 1.0 9mm with said trigger. It now feels very similar to the trigger on the Shield Plus I acquired recently.

The fire control group is dfferent from gen 1 to gen 2 in both the shield and m&p, can't swap parts.

My gen 1 shield was so bad it was about to find itself out on the lawn rusting away.
The trigger was HEAVY, gritty, and stagey.

I decided to add an Apex, ameriglo sights and Hogue grip sleeve. Now carry it from time and just got the slide cut for a dot. The trigger now has a very smooth and crisp hair over 5 lb trigger.

Apex is the way to go. But I never needed it.
I’ve got 3K rounds thru my gen 1. The stock trigger smoothed out a bit, and I can put 9 rounds into 3” at 10 yards.
It is my EDC, minute of “perp” is all I need.

I had a Gen 1, didn't upgrade to the Gen 2, but I couldn't pass up the Plus. I only sold the 1.0 because I had a friend who needed it more than I needed for it to sit in my safe. Fortunately, I got to keep what I call the Right of First Refusal on it.

Thanks to all for the info. Think I'll stick with the stock trigger awhile longer.

Just put an AlphaWolf 40-to-9mm conversion barrel in the Shield so I can shoot more cheaply. Seemed like a better use of the $$. Lots of 9mm ammo here.

I know this is more than you would spend in any trigger upgrade, but you should look at the Shield Plus. The grip feels better, and the factory trigger is amazing.

I got a Shield Plus 3.1" and 4", and I sold my Version 1 Shield, and my 2.0 4" Shield. The Plus is way, way better
