Premise: you have less than 2 weeks to get this done. We may assume that there are approx 90,000,000 conservative gun-owners in America. HOW would YOU PROPOSE to MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that ALL of them vote??

The numbers I've heard put it closer to 80,000,000. And 30% of Democrats own guns, so they're not going to all be conservative, either.

I think the first step would be to back off the issues that both sides don't agree on - immigration, social policy, etc. when talking to other gun owners. Don't say "don't vote for candidate x, he is very anti-gun and a socialist to boot," just say "don't vote for candidate x because he is very anti-gun" and calmly explain why. If you bring anything else into the mix you run the risk of putting people off.

I know quite a few people who own firearms, but are extremely left wing and couldn't care less if Hussein Obama is an antigun Marxist Socialist Lite.

They'll vote for him no matter.

That's just the way it is.

Increasing the number that actually do vote, and vote based on gun control issues, would be a more realistic goal.

Yeah, I suspect that that all of the folks who are going vote on gun control as the single issue are already planning to vote.

I think a vast majority of gun owners in this country are more worried about the economy than 2nd Amendment rights and will vote for whoever they believe will help straighten it out better.

Most people are shallow. We are seeing the selling of our country to those who neither own property, nor pay taxes. As soon as either of these ****** bags get into office they are going to grant amnesty and citizenship to millions of border-crossers who neither understand the responsibilities nor have earned the privilege and make the numbers far worse. Vote now, so that you can say you at least TRIED the last time your vote made any difference.

I think most gun owners and second amendment folks will indeed vote for McCain (mostly because of Palin) and turnout will be good.

-Cheers

I think it comes as a matter of priorities.

The members of THR are probably some of the most well informed and vocal gun owners in existance. Just because your life revolves around guns (as does mine), there's a tendency to believe that other gun owners are just as "into" firearms and subjects as we are.

The truth is not so. Realisticly, 80% of other gun owners just take owning firearms for granted. This is the population that are going to have a violent "deer in the headlights" reaction to "ALL YOUR GUNS ARE NOW ILLEGAL". Since most of us here realize the reality of the anti-gun movement, and what a world would be like without legally owned guns, we act (and vote) accordingly. We are AWARE of the possibility of "ALL YOUR GUNS ARE NOW ILLEGAL"

It is a mistake to believe that all gun owners are as actively engaged in 2A issues as you are.

That is why it is MY responsibility, and YOURS, and EVERYONE HERE IN THIS FORUM to fight as hard as they can...tooth and nail....for gun rights in any way possible. It is our duty to make up for all the clueless gun owners living their lives in la-la land when it comes to firearms freedom.
