I was watching the news tonight, and I noticed that one of the 8 Marines on the ground in Liberia had a Benelli M1014 shotgun! Pretty Cool. Its not an 1100 or 11-87, but I guess it will do in a pinch. I know...get the flamethrowers ready :).

I also did not know that the official language of Liberia is English! I should have, because Liberia was founded by freed slaves from America.

"Leon me when your not strong" The marines are using a very good weapon. That doesn't necessarily include the Colt's. :scrutiny:

Benellis are good shotguns. If they hold up as well as 870s do, they de facto become great ones. Time will tell.

One thing I've noticed about Benelli is the craftsmanship that goes into the gun. I've owned Remingtons, I've broken down Mossbergs (issue weapon), but neither has the craftsmanship that went into the Benelli M4s. They are not only great shotguns, but works of art.

I wonder how different the M4's for civilians will be. Other than the PC features, some of the older pics of the has a little thingy in front of the triggerguard...is it for those speedloader thingamajigs??

Skunk,
My Limited Edition does not have the thingy. And the newer pics I've seen also lack the thingy.

Saw the civilian type Benelli M1014 at a local gun shop, with a price tag of $1475. Has a 5 round magazine, with a plastic looking extension thingy to meet the magazine cap bracket mounted on the end of the barrel. In other words, it has a fake long magazine instead of the 9-shot(I think) on the military model. The same store had a used excellent condition Remington 1100 12 gauge for $289. I bought it after talking them down to $250. Hey Dave McCracken, how many shotgun shells can you buy for $1225?

Skunk, I don't know what that thingy is. I assume that the speedloader next to it in the picture implies that you can use it for that particular M4. The M4 I saw in SLO didn't have it though. I'll look back at the article that featured it and maybe I can get an answer to that :D

Leon, depending on the market, but using the DMMU rule, it sounds like 5 or so.

Congrats on the "New" 1100. BA/UU/R and have fun....

Hey Dave,

I can buy 5 shotgun shells for $1225? Is that what you meant? Or did you mean 5 1100s for $1225?

5 used 870s or about 250 boxes of decent shells, Leon. Maybe 3-4 used 1100s.

DISCLAIMER:

I didn't invent the Dave McCracken Monetary Unit. A regular here did. I write and preach regularly about how all we need are good used 870s instead of the high priced UBER-scatterguns and lots of ammo. The regular decided to immortalize me by christening that price the DMMU.

Anyone that comes up with a better name, sing out.

DMMU
Being a CWG and all, I refuse to learn a new system. I appreciate fine firearms, blue and wood and all. Form and function comes first for me.

I won 2 Benelli's using a '74 model Win , and a 3rd with an early '80's Citori 3 bbl set. I horse traded these Benelli's for all kinds of stuff... 1911's, K frames, ammo, wads primers and went toward a pallet of shot..."Where'd ALL that come from"...umm I traded a new gun for it "New gun?" Yeah I won it "Well your truck ain't gonna fit in the garage"...Ok it hasn't up to now anyway". ;) Amazing the number of toys and stuff a fella can get for one Benelli. Best Trade I had was that re-head for some sanity, cost me a bunch of DMMU's ( rate of exchange for *DD) kinda high...sanity good at any price...I made up for it in savings in the long run tho'. :D

Ok Dave, I got the DMMU concept. We are on the same sheet of music now :).

I do believe that the Benelli is the most overrated and overpriced shotgun out there. They are good shotguns, but there are shotguns out there just as good, for less money.

I'm not dumping on Novas, Benellis, or any other shotguns here. It's just that nobody has shown me much that can't be done by a decent 870 in trained hands but can become a piece of cake with another brand.

73,have you won any shotguns you kept? Maybe you should be the Grand High Poobah and Mugwump of the CWGs....
