The factory ammo I have used just isn't that accurate. They kind of throw buckshot in a general direction.
I figured I can probably do better.
First I slugged the bore. Looks like it's about .412'' (no choke) and compared components I have to the bore. My other 410 has a full choke and I have not slugged the bore on it yet.
All I have is 2.5 inch cheddites. My "red clay buster wads" seem to fit pretty snung in the bore with Hornady 000 buckshot which measures .35 inches.
It could be better.
I can't find a source for 0000 buchshot, so I bought a lee 2 ball mold for .36'' I figure I need to cast my own stuff as much as possible. Another 10 thousands should make them fit really snug.
If I could find a .410" to .415 or so ball mold I might just do that.
Powders I have that are appropriate for loading 410 are h110, al410 and AA9.
Anyone else try making better 410 buckshot?

I too load my own .410 buck shot.
As you noted, a .36”ball fits snug in the bottom of a .410 wad. However, the next three can accommodate a .375” ball.
I too opted for a .36 two cavity mold, likewise a .375” also.
I use Hodgdon’s LilGun powder, and crimp with a Lee classic hand loader, though I’ve used a 5/8” deep socket and a 3/8” bolt with the threads cut off.
I’ve also used H110, and #2400.

My Savage .22-.410 particularly likes it. Typically it’ll place one pellet at POA at 25yds with a second immediately below, and another pair about 6” below the top two. Aiming at the top of a 9-1/2” paper plate results in 4hits. Impressive, actually!

The thinner walled trap wads would probably fit 375 better. I only have about 100 clear thinner walled trap wads and a pack of 500 of those red clay busters I have many used 20 to 50 of them.
Oh and I also have enforcer and bluedot which may be too fast for 410.
