first, forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere, its a little overwhelming as a nee member trying to catch up on the "old news"...
Is anyone here a US Concealed Carry Association member? What has been your experience with the organization? I'm considering joining and their recent offer for gun related insurance is enticing. Any thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I'd wait to hear from some other members but personally I've never heard of them. And I'd read through the fine print of anything before signing up with them for insurance or giving them money.

Some good organizations to be a part of; NRA, Second Amendment Foundation, whatever your state level grassroots organization is.

Also, welcome to THR.

I was a member for several years. They are a very good organization with an agenda that benefits us. They also have a forum, like this, that has a lot of very knowledgeable people. I left when they became more aggressive than the NRA with their money collecting. They became more about the "donations" than the message. Also, the forum is loaded with a core group (the clique) that is very condescending and full of themselves. They became more about lecturing than about teaching. They treated newbies like they carried AIDS and their advice was always tainted with snobbery and a know-it-all attitude.

After 3 or 4 years I became tired of the constant money grabbing and know-it-alls who were full of themselves. At the end I emailed one of the "clique leaders" and told him if they continued to treat newbies like crap that I would end my dues paying. He emailed back that he was surprised someone felt that way because he's there to help, not attack. When he did it again a few months later, I emailed him and told him he was the reason I left. He emailed back that he'll survive fine. I emailed the president and told him the reason I left. He offered a discount to returning members. I declined.

They provide the same type of services that the NRA offers. It's not a scam but if you like the product, it's like State Farm vs Allstate. The forums have valuable information but nothing better than here. If you can stomach the clique then you can learn some good stuff.

Thanks for your review of their organization. That's exactly the type of information I wanted to know and I think I will hold off for now. Thanks a bunch.

I belonged for a couple years, and they just don't leave you alone, even after lapsing. Constant email bombardment to renew, and with related ads, etc. Of course, that's what businesses do - advertise to try and get your business.

What did it for me was the owner started selling a program along the lines of "How to set up an internet business which generates a lot of $$$ from its members" and then started selling it very aggressively. And for most of us, watching a DVD is not going to be the equalizer that gives us some ninja moves in case we are attacked by somebody who learned how to fight in Folsom. (that's what situational awareness, running, and as a last resort guns are for)

+1.
They were always trying to sell me something. I quit, too.

I was a one (or two?) year member a few years ago.
They do have a lot of good folks in that organization, at least as I see it.

Tim tried to turn it into a (shooting) liability insurance company, and I stopped being a member.

Certainly not knocking Tim, as free enterprise is something I'm totally on board with.
Just wasn't for me.

I was a member for about 2 years a few years ago. At that time it was just a forum, and a magazine subscription. If you stop subscribing, forum access ends as well.
It is a good magazine and the forum was just like any other forum.

This year I subscribed again. Today, USCCA is an insurance backed plan for concealed carry holders, called Self Defense Shield. I have a lawyer on retainer from this plan. They still have the magazine too.
But the forum is gone. Tim Schmidt stopped doing the forum.

It is a good insurance plan. There are other insurance plans out there too such as; www.armedcitizensnetwork.org
www.locktonaffinity.com (NRA endorsed)

Me too

I joined due to the insurance plan for CCW people.

I believe the cost is FAR better than any price I would have to pay if I had to use DPF.

I also carry another policy by a different company for the same reason,I am retired LEO and I have seen how the courts & press go in a shoot.
