Am pretty new to modern handguns.

Mags for this P229 fit really well in the M11 A1, but are the factory .40/.357 mags considered reliable when feeding 9mm ammo into the M11?

Can M11A1 9mm mags reliably operate with .40 ammo in the (.40 caliber) P229?
It is a bit confusing.

The M11 A1 looks to be strictly a 9mm P-229. My guess it's an old gen (1) 229 with some upgrades . I'm not seeing how 40/357 mags are going to work in M11 A1 because those are gen 2 mags. My gen 1 mags fit in a gen 2 pistol but I wouldn't force the issue.

Better call Sig. They created this mess.

I have a P226 as well as a half dozen older 228 mags that all fit into my M11A1. The 228 mags all hols 2 fewer rounds but other than that they have given me no issues. As for the 40/357 mags in a M11A1 I cannot be of help but if for some reason they fit I would never trust them to be reliable regardless of who said it's OK to use them.

I'm using 228 mags in my 229. CDNN says they are the same if you have a 229 gen 1 pistol. 229 Gen 2 has a different frame so I'm told. What you are saying leads me to believe the M11 A1 has gen 1 frame just like my 229 classic.

I hate these changes. I never have to worry about this stuff with a 1911.

If the 40 mags hold the 9mm rounds and it fits in the gun, give it a go.

I wouldn't trust my life to a mag not specifically made for the gun, but I use 40 P226 mags in my 9mm p226 all the time.

While the M11 supplied to the military is a 228, the M11A1 is a version of the 229.

Prior to the 229-1, the 9mm 229 was really a 228 with a milled slide, and the 40/229 magazines would not fit into it. With SIG's change to the 229-1, all frames are the same and all magazines will interchange regardless of calibre

...Can M11A1 9mm mags reliably operate
The alternative calibre magazines will function in different calibre 229s, however how reliable that function is will always be questionable
