An RFP from DHS specifically referred to the rifle and ammunition targeted by banners as a "personal defense weapon". Since banners are arguing that the AR and similar firearms are not suitable for personal defense how does that jibe with the government RFP to acquire them for that purpose? Obviously it does not.

Here's the link to the RFP being referred to.

Senator Goodguy,

*I am opposed to the proposed AWB 2013 unveiled today by Senator Feinstein and ask that you vigorously oppose the legislation on the grounds that it will not serve the stated purpose of reducing violent crime or murder and the numerous and overall provisions of the legislation violates the Constitution of the United States.

In addition, Senator Feinstein claims that the firearms she intends to ban are not suitable for self defense. If this were to be true the Department of Homeland Security would not have released an RFP to purchase this type of firearm for personal self defense, but that is precisely what they did.

Here's the link to the RFP I'm referring to and a relevant excerpt.

If the agencies of the federal government consider the AR-15 family of firearms to be personal defense weapons, Senator Feinstein is mischaracterizing them as not being suitable for personal defense.

If the murder rate in the U.S. is at a 50 year low and the murder rate has been falling year after year since the expiration of the '94 AWB while AR-15 modern sporting rifles have grown more and more popular, to the point where people are standing in line to purchase current inventory, the ever more popular AR-15 type of rifle can not contribute to murder rates. Falling murder rates (FBI UCR) coupled with increasing ownership of these modern sporting rifles does not logically lead anyone to the conclusion that these firearms make murder rates worse. Therefore the Senator misrepresents the purpose of the proposed legislation and it will not achieve the stated goal while infringing upon the rights of you constituents.

Senator Feinstein is continuing an over 20 year program of advancing her political career by lying to the American public about these firearms and demeaning and demonizing your constituents that use them for hunting, competition, recreation, and, yes, personal defense.

Please oppose Senator Feinstein's proposed legislation and protect the rights of your constituents.

v/r,
