I ordered a Redding Competition Seater die for .30-06 loads. I have other seating dies for .30-06 (RCBS and Lee). Would there be any downside to using my Redding Competition die for all my seating, such as wearing the die out for loading plinking ammo, or anything along those lines?

My thinking is that I would like for all of my reloaded ammo to be tuned to my rifles, and as accurate as I can make it so long as I have the equipment to do so. The only exception is that I just want to make factory ammo for my Mini 14 since it won't really do less than 3 MOA no matter what I do.

You will not wear the die out. I do not use my Forster seater for .223 plinking ammo. I just use my regular Redding seater. Not that it would hurt anything to use the Forster. I do crimp all my plinking/etc ammo, because I want to make sure it will function in any rifle. I can do that in the same step with the standard seater if I want to.

Seating die

If you wear that Redding die out in your lifetime I think that Redding would replace it for you free of charge. You are more likely to wear out the sizing die first. Just remember to lube the cases before sizing.
The seating die is the key to great loads.

Not in this life time.

Perfect. I saw the Ammosmith video on You Tube where he sets up a competition die with micrometer adjustment. This looks to be far easier than having to loosen a nut, adjust the seater plug with a small screw driver, and then tighten back up the nut, and then check with calipers again.

It is real nice, that's for sure.

I have used my Redding Comp. Die in .308 for 8+ years, never had a single problem. (clean her twice though)
