I just got a Henry Big Boy .45LC and loving it!.
I was wondering if it's ok to use reloads on these.
If so what type powder should I be using?
thanks in advance.
John

I reload for everything I've ever shot. Yes, it's OK as long as your loads are made up with safe published data. The slower powders like H-110, 4227, A#9 and 2400 will get you the highest velocities in a .45 LC. Lil'gun also looks very good, although I've never used it. There's a ton of data out there for the round. Some of the faster powders (for the Colt round) like Blue Dot and A#7, A#5, and Unique should be good for intermediate loads. If it works in a revolver, it will be fine in a carbine. Really, a pretty easy and versatile caliber.
Oh, congrats on the Henry!

I don't think I've ever read an owners manual that didn't have a warning in it advising against reloads. That is just a CYA thing for the gun mnufacturer. If you shoot unsafe reloads in their gun and damage it they will void the warranty. As they should in my opinion. As long as you shoot quality reloads you will never have a gun issue and never have to ask about the warranty.

Reloads are no different then factory loads if you load them right.

If you need someone on the internet to tell you what powder you need?

You probably should buy a reloading manual or two and read them several times before proceeding any further.

Yes pick up a manual or two and get started...you may find it quite fun.
