I wonder if there will be any real downside to cutting the throat deeper on my 6.8SPC Encore barrel? I can't help but feel that freeing up that extra case capacity would help with accuracy and keep pressures in check. Do ya'll think this is worthwhile?

Right now I seat 130grn Hornady SST's to a col of 2.415 or .015 off the lands (illustrated on the left) as you can see the base of the bullet protrudes into the case by a good deal. What I would like to be able to do is seat these bullets so the base of the bullet is flush with the bottom of the case neck (shown on right). I can rent a throating reamer for $25 so I won't be out any real cash on this endeavor.

With a break top, you can set the throat to whatever you want. But if you want to shoot any lighter bullets, I wouldn't get too carried away. I'd seat the lightest bullet is was ever going to shoot, and cut through based on that. You can always seat heavies into the case, but you can only load so long.
