VA - Reciprocity/Recognition Update, more states

States that honor VA permits:

Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, Indiana,
Utah, Oklahoma, Idaho, Vermont (no permit necessary), Alaska,
Kentucky, Montana, and Missouri.

State whose permits are honored in VA:

Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina,
Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Kentucky, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota, and
Washington.

As always, check with state authorities for changes/conditions before travel.

Dangit! When is South Carolina gonna recognise VA's permit? We take the family the Myrtle Beach every year, sometimes twice, and I hate being a criminal one week a year.

Anyone know why SC doesn't like VA's permit?

Actually, VA has reciprocity with WV, so WV's permit is honored there.

The following is from the VA State Police web site http://www.vsp.state.va.us/cjis_reciprocity.htm:

Virginia extends reciprocity or recognition to citizens holding both resident and non-resident permits/licenses from the following jurisdictions as set forth below:

Listing of states with which Virginia has Reciprocity Agreements*:

Florida

North Carolina

Ohio

Tennessee

West Virginia


* Virginia non-resident permit holders – Florida has indicated that it does not grant reciprocity to holders of non-resident permits. Virginia non-resident permit holders should contact each reciprocal state to determine if their permit will be recognized prior to carrying in that jurisdiction.

Listing of states of which Virginia will grant recognition to valid permit holders:

Alaska

Arkansas

Kentucky

Louisiana

Michigan

Minnesota

Montana

New Mexico

Oklahoma

South Carolina

Texas

Utah

Washington

Wyoming


Although Virginia will grant recognition, these states may not authorize Virginia permit holders to possess a firearm in their state. You will need to contact each state to determine if they will recognize your Virginia permit.
