Despite all the commercially available mounting plate options for various red dot optic and various pistol combinations, there are many “holes” in the selection, combinations which are simply not offered. Sure you can mount just about any red dot on a Glock, but some less common brand guns or models of brands are not as well supported.

I was looking at some of the more esoteric offerings by EGW yesterday and saw that they offer some gunsmithing services besides their ready-to-use mounting plates. I called them and had a very satisfactory conversation with one of their customer service folks. I found out they keep on hand some non-specific mounting plate blanks that they will cut and fit to your oddball rear sight dovetail cut and drill for your specific red dot mounting pattern. No, it isn’t cheap, but the price is fair. $49.95 for the mount blank (their regular price for the brand/model specific plates as well) and $125 for the fitting job. $175 out the door plus shipping of the slide both ways I suppose.

My specific interest was the Kimber Micro 9 which has an unusual dovetail cut according a conversation I had with Kimber. The common mount suppliers don’t support that dovetail cut. EGW said they could mount a red dot on it, no problem.

For what it is worth.
