Let's talk crazy.

Let's say there is an "unverified" world record I wanted to beat. Let's also say it not a record that's held in a sanctioned match (like for instance an f class world record or bullseye world record).

How would one go about having it verified? Guinness book of world records agent come out and verify with an NRA range master?

There is an "unverified" (and unbelievable by many folks) record I want to beat, but I want it on the books. Personally beating it would be enough for my own satisfaction, but having it legitimized would be an absolute cherry on top. How does one go about doing that?

To the best of my knowledge, you can have anything verified as a world record. You just have to contact the guys that make that horrific beer, and see if they are willing to verify.
