It has just been announced that Victorinox has purchased Wenger, which will continue to operate under the Wenger name. The new capital infusion is expected to be of great help to Wenger remaining in business, in Delemont, as always.

Carl Elsener, Jr. of Victorinox will sit on the Wenger board of directors, but others will be Wenger people.

I hope this will improve the blade finish and sharpness of Wenger Swiss Army knives, which have been somewhat inconsistent at times.

Don't they have antitrust laws in Switzerland?! This means that one company controls the entire Swiss Army Knife output for . . . the world?! ;)

Man, I remember the Victorinox versus Wenger battles between my friends and I during my youth. If only we knew...

At least it's the *right* company! :D There's a great Swiss Army Knife board at knifeforums.com. You can't even see it until you do a few things first, though.
Step 1: eigister at KF.
Step 2: log in.
Step 3: Click on the "why I like Swiss Army Knives"(or something like that) board, & post some little something.

That's it, you'll then have access to the SAK board whenever you log in to KF. Great board with great people.

I didn't know there was a difference. This is about as surprised as I would be if the two leading pencil makers in the world combined.

I'm more of a Victorinox fan but I'll have to pick up a Wenger when the new ownership improves their QC.

Victorinox versus Wenger battles were more heated than the Case, versus Shrade/Walden...then later Schrade, then Buck Vs Case.

I prefer the Case Mako Shark myself to the Buck 110...

I have put up somewhere one each of the Victorinox and Wenger brought back for me - bought in Switzerland. I ate the chocolate - kept the knives...yum - good chocolate , and the knives are neat.

I suspect that if Victorinox was going to bring the Wegner products up to their standards that they would simply stamp their name on the side too. I have a fealing that the Wegner line is going to become a nice outlet for factory-second victorinox knives, Maybe a sort of 870 Express VS Wingmaster type of deal.

I prefer not having pictures of fish on the blades of my classic lockbacks, so I'll take the Buck 110 everytime. :p

Boats-
The Case fit my hands better, and the blade size for me more controllable than the Buck 110 and Shrade equiv. Being the rebel I am - well I have to be different at times... :p

That Particular Mako of mine no longer has the fish btw. I loaned it to a fella to take elk hunting in CO- he ruined the blade by "just touching it up" on a powder driven sharpener on the back of a can opener... :uhoh: :fire:

Case replaced the blade at NO Charge to me when I related the story/ tragedy/me being upset . The Case Folks said it was the same blade - just without the shark. It is...I was appreciative of Case's service as this was not their fault...

The Swiss knives differed for the most in how the scissors were made and nail file. Then they started putting tweezers and toothpicks in the handles...which meant I had to buy one of each to compare. :p

In a tackle box somewhere...is a Victorinox - single blade I paid $3.95 for. About 2 1/2" or so in knife length , spear blade. That sucker is sharp! Has stayed sharp a-l-l these years.

It was sitting there winking at me as I bought some stuff while out trout fishing...I've cleaned many a trout, other fish, whittled, cut rope, and spread peanut butter...I've paid ten times that much for a knife that has not given me that kind of service.

Ha! No kidding! I was always a Victorinox man, myself. Funny.

I remember working in a hardware store as a teenager and looking over that Case Mako in the knife case. I always liked the styling. Of course, I've always liked the 110, too. (That's my problem. I like too many knives and guns...)

-Not exactly what I said...sentiment might have been expresed. :p I did get the whole Elk Roast tho'. ;)

Heathen? Gee that is the nicest thing I have been called all day - thank you. :D

No in addition to a SAK, I often carried a Case Trapper, Case Camp knife, The Case Trout&Bird knife or a Kabar.

I guess every hang-up bag, shaving kit, duffle,, possibles bag, range bag, gun cleaning kit, glove box...has a SAK in it. Add the tackle boxes, desk drawers, kitchen drawers...and I'm guessing everyone keeps a SAK in the sock drawer and bathroom medicine cabinet.

I dunno, I was raised one was not dressed unless they had a knife on person. I just added Case knives and SAKs to every room in the house...

I used to buy the SAK buy the dozen...Gifts, men or women, always apppreciated.

True Story : I used a SAK ( the one with all the tools) to cut an apple and slice cheese while taking Mom on a drive to see the leaves change and scenery. She actually tried to steal my knife. So for Mother's day I gave her - her own. She was estastic. Everyone thought I was nuts.

There my mom goes down to the pond I had out back at the time, barefeet in the water, cane pole propped in a Forked stick...whittling away, having the best time on Mother's day... :p

Didn't mind using her new SAK to clean her own fish caught either...my job was to sharpen ( if need) her knife and cook the fish she caught.

My book keeper, who is in her late 50's, absolutely loves here Wenger I gave her (Wenger Teton). Personally, I have had both Victorinox and Wengers, and I prefer the Wenger. The pliars, phillips screw driver, and scissors are a better design, in my opinion. Plus, I like the more compact shape of the Wenger. Of course, the Victorinox knives are fine knives, I just found I gravitated towards Wengers.

Those who prefer the size of the Wenger should know that Victorinox also has some knives in the 84mm (closed) length. Their "normal" models are 91mm closed.
