Vihtavouri reloading manual

anybody have this? I've never seen it at local stores (sportsmans warehouse). I've seen parts of it copied in the "Loadbooks" one-caliber books.

I was reading somewhere that the Vihta manual has hotter loads than most american manuals (not as liability scared I guess). How is the write-up and other information besides the load tables? Is it worth getting if you already have the speer, hornady, and Lee books?

I`ve got the 2nd and 3rd editions. They are fine if all you use is VV powders. They have data for a lot of european cartridges we don`t see much of on this side of the pond. If you have a 9.3x74R, 8.2x53. or 5.6x35R Vierling, or maybe you have another metric cartridge they would be handy to have. I don`t see them as offering any "hotter" loads though. I suspect the little differance in loads is due to the various components and lot # changes. Also CIP measures pressure at a different point in the chamber/throat then SAAMI which results in a different numerically max PSI figure.
A couple examples;

44 mag / 240 gr Hornady JTC-Sil
VVN-110
VihtaVuori #2 / 21.5gr
Hornady #7 / 25.9

308 Win / 180 gr Hornady SP
VVN-150
VihtaVuori #3 / 44.5 gr gr
Hornady #7 / 42.7 gr

Midway carried them when I bought mine, and I believe still does. Grafts and other on-line stores should also offer them.

I find myself using the Lee manual more than my Hornady or Speer manuals. I like the "non-specific" aspect of Lee's loads.

Lee says "140gr jacketed bullet" and lists maybe 25 or 35 powders and loads. Hornady and Speer say "this load is for OUR 140gr bullet only!" and maybe list only 10 loads or so.

Lee doesn't have any introduction and info on each caliber though, like speer & hornady do. For example, speer or hornady might say something like "the british loaded the .303 with 170gr bullets at 2400 fps..." (I'm just guessing at those numbers). Lee just has the load info and that's it.

The Lee manual is similar to the individual cartridge "Load Books", old data from the powder manufactures just expanded to include more cartridges. Credit for the data sources is given on pg4 of the Lee manual 1st edition. I don`t have the later books to be sure of where it is listed in them.
You can get the up-dated versions by going to the various powder company web sites and downloading their pamphlets. The powder companies do however also list the bullet used to arrive at their finding with their data along with case and primer.

The VV manual does list a brief cartridge history for each cartridge they offer data for the same as other major manuals.

I would have expected a European powder manufacturer to have load data for the "7.65 Browning". But they don't. Odd.
