I downloaded the 2006 reloading guide from their site and I noticed that the .357 Mag load data calls for a small rifle primer. What is the benefit of using a SR primer in .357 Mag? Can this be just a typo?

Probably not a Typo.

The Small Rifle primer can take more pressure. Some folks loading the .38 Super real hot for Competition routinely use Small Rifle primers.

Call them and ask, but it will not hurt a thing as long as you work up your load using it from the start.

I'll call them today. Hopefully, I can use small pistol primers instead, as that would be consistent with all of my other .357 load data. I want to keep "oddball" requirements out of my loads to minimize the chance of making a mistake.

I use small rifle primers for 9mm Luger, .38 spl, .357mag and .375 Rem max. 9mm Lugers are Beretta and T/C Contender. :)
