this started out as a rifle & scope purchase at my favorite shop; one of the employees was selling his Ruger No. 1 in .45-70 and the shop had a consignment Bausch & Lomb Elite 400 2.5-10 X 40 scope and I snagged the combo for $650 and the shop did the mounting & boresighting for free; long story short, I followed the instructions in the owner's manual and disassembled the rifle thoroughly for cleaning and lube and had a horendous time with reassembly (I tried 17 times in 4 hours and couldn't get the internals lined up properly and I gave up and took the gun back to the shop); I was given $625 trade in credit ($25 to cover the shop owner's time to disassemble my boo-booed gun and ressemble it correctly was deducted from a $650 total credit); I just felt that I would end up hating the gun since I am very anal about my cleaning and lubing regimen
I spotted a consignment Sig Sauer P239 in .40 S&W priced way low at $450 with very little cosmetic flaws and most likely less than 500 rounds thru it (later that evening I stopped at a shop closer to home to get some ammo and spotted a NIB for $809 and a used one in similar shape for $649); the shop had a new P239 barrel in .357 Sig for $139; I snagged the combo for a little less than $600...one of the best used buys I have ever done
what I picked up to try after breaking in the .357 Sig barrel:
.40 S&W...Speer Gold Dot 'short barrel' 180gr; Federal HydraShok 165gr
.357 Sig...Speer Gold Dot 125gr
opinions on these loads for the shorter barrel in the P239? will .357 Sig feed using the .40 S&W mags (I carefully dry cycled several rounds in each mag and they fed, extracted, and ejected well; the owner's manual states that .357 Sig can't work in .40 S&W mags and visa versa); if the loads stated above don't suit you, what do you use?
