Now, I know no one's going to give away his favorite spot but... For those of you in VA what are your opinions of the various tracts of public land around Northern VA? I've been bowhunting in Quantico (good place, by the way) but they don't allow rifle hunting, so I'm looking for somewhere else. I've been out to the Rapidan tract (the northern one) of the Rapidan WMA, which is really thick. I've heard about the Phelps WMA, but haven't been there. What are y'all's opinions on the various options (what have I left off?) for someone without access to private land in Northern VA? I'm in Centreville, and I'm plenty willing to drive a few hours.

Thanks.

Why don't you hit the GWNF down around Wardensville, Wv (the Va side though). It's only a couple hours from Centreville and has deer, bear, turkey, squirrel, grouse, etc. You can use any Va legal weapon to hunt. The terrain is kinda rough in areas, so make sure you have good gear.

Take I-66W to I-81S. Take exit 296 from I81 and turn right at the stop sign. The first gas station has the only public restrooms other than "facilitrees". They also sell licenses in case you forget yours. Drive about 17 miles and turn left onto the unmarked National Forest access road. If you miss it and hit the Wv border, turn around and drive 1 mile. Follow road as far back as you please. I generally go about 5 miles in. Good hunting and few, if any, yahoos.
