Vista also owns federal ammo. Does this mean you can still buy Remington ammo? Or will the Remington ammo disappear from the market?

Hopefully, the Remington product line will continue, but with a higher focus on QA/QC.

A recent international example was the CBC (Magtech) purchase of S&B. Nothing seems to have changed with S&B.

Vista Outdoors also owns Speer, and was spun off from ATK not long ago. ATK purchased Blount Ammunition Business which included Speer and Federal in late 2001.

I hope Vista Outdoors does good things with what they've purchased WRT the Remington ammunition business.

The Remington name will continue. It carries a lot of value. Likewise with the specific names for product lines (Golden Saber, Thunderbolt, etc.) It wouldn't make sense to buy the brands otherwise.

I agree with mokin on the Remington shot shells. Their 12 and 20 gauge shells are by far my preferred brand. I don't use 28 or 410 so I can't comment on those gauges.

Really be no reason to obtain the Remington line if they were not going to continue the brand name. They have obtained several different brands of optics without changing the name or the quality/known value and already own several name brand lines of ammo. If Remington could not make it after all these years of their good reputation with both firearms and ammo, it's not because of production costs, but of poor business management and too much fat rising to the top.

People like to blame management for all kinds of things they don't have as much control over as you might think at first glance. Being in anti-business and anti-gun states makes it harder to operate for a firearms business but moving is often not an easy option when the company is saddled with a union contract they can't get out of.

With the exception of thunderbolt, the Remington ammo line is a very solid line. There is no reason to get rid of it, especially now, when Vista can just pound out as much ammo as they can make while there is a huge demand. Personally, I would just dump the Thunderbolt name and find a new name for the value line of 22LR after figuring out how to fix it. The problems with Thunderbolt have been ongoing for the better part of a decade now.

Lotta blame out there for Remington's demise. The biggest is the Model 70/700 trigger lawsuits/litigation issue. This settlement affected 7.5 million firearms. 7.5 million. Yet only about 25,000 folks actually sent in their firearms for the new and improved trigger. While the denial of a problem and the ensuring lawsuits brought on a lot of negative publicity, that gun and their other iconic firearms like the venerable 870 (11 million sold) continued to be some of the highest selling, even tho their designs are over half a century old. Mistakes made like the ignoring of the model 70/700 trigger and the attempt at other firearms that did not perform or grab the public eye are direct management issues. When every LGS and big box store in the nation sells your guns and ammo, and demand over the last dozen years has never been so high, there has to be a problem with how profits are being managed.

God forbid people try to get the best compensation for their time and skills so as to better provide for their families. The horror.

Never had a problem with Remington 9mm and 380. I have a Beretta Nano that has shot buckets of the stuff. I hope they continue to sell this range ammo. I have some 22'cal that love the Goldens.
Personally I do not get involved with all the buyouts of major corporations these days. Half the time you do not know who owns what. I use to work for a Corporation that was bought out so many times it was crazy. A lot of folks will tell you why a corporation went into bankruptcy, buyout etc. It was because of this or it was because of that. Every one seems to have their own particular reason why or some kind of insider knowledge. I would say if that is a concern then just pick the reason you like best and move on.

Well I'm going to take the opposite path, guys; I'm not shedding a tear. Their guns were garbage; I never understood the love for the 700 or the 870. Still don't. Don't even get me started on their whole Nylon 22 line and the 597s. Their ammo was okay. It was range stuff. Outside of plane Jane 30-30, it was nothing I would hunt with. (Although I don't get the hate for Thunderbolt. It was no worse than Wildcat or any other cheap-o rimfire. Yeah, it jammed. It jammed a lot. That's what autoloader rimfires do. If you don't want your 22LR to jam, buy a bolt action.)

I understand that we shouldn't celebrate the loss of a gun company, and that the the anti-gun crowd will be dancing a jig over Remington's grave. I get it. But there has to be a line somewhere.
