History is full of small weapon manufacturers that sometimes lack good CS or quality control or sometimes disappear altogether leaving you high and dry if you need parts...I'm not a pure collector and I like to use my guns...

Examples are everywhere, Dornaus & Dixon, Wyoming Arms, etc...

Can anybody tell me how reputable and reliable Vltor is as company??
What are the chances they are going to be around for a while and/or support their products???

How long you think I should wait before buying the Fortis 10 mm Auto in order to avoid the inevitable initial issues???

One year?? Two??

I do not want to be a guinea pig for early problems....

VLTOR Weapons Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of Abrams Airborne Manufacturing, Inc. Abrams has 205 employees and had revenues last year of 9.8 million, and has been in business since 1965.

According to VLTOR, the Bren Ten (formerly Fortis Pistol) project was fully funded before development began. Further, since it's parent company is an aerospace design/mfg firm, they were able to take a known design (Bren Ten) and significantly improve it via finite element analysis and computer modeling. It also appears they have interviewed extensively those who were familiar with previous Bren Ten projects, and learned from those mistakes.

They are well known in tactical products community and are considered to be a leader in quality and innovation.

I am excited for the gun, and will probably buy one early. If I like it, I may also buy often.

I never buy into the "wait a while till the bugs get worked out" way of thinking, even when it applies to other things outside of handguns.
Personally i like getting new things i didnt wait 3 years for drooling over.
Riskier? yes id say so,but i feel the possible enjoyment may surpass any possible negative issues.Lifes to short to try and sidestep and avoid things that "may" go wrong.

As for the company i know little about them, but it seems most people who are "in the know" feel its worth waiting for.Even the original Bren-Ten were not toughted as a "great and reliable handgun" while it was being made, but became populer because they failed.

It's a tough choice.
Wait until they get the bugs out.
or
Get in early while they are still taking care and have not gotten lazy on the production line.

They might have to tweak the production line to get everything just right.
They also might have new employees getting the hang of things. Besides usually management gets lazy before production does or piss their employees off and ruin morale.

Is it out, yet?

I was receiving semi-regular updates from the company on the progress of the Fortis pistol, but I haven't heard anything in months.
Has a release date been set?

I have run into this issue with cars too. I'm one of those people who likes to wait until there's a track record to review.

Never mind; I just checked the official blog. They got the rights to the Bren Ten name. Cool!
