Hi folks,

I'm hoping some of you fine folks might help me out here...

I'm currently located in Daytona beach, and I'm seeking a shooting spot. I don't really want to continue paying the range fees that I'm presently stuck with. I'm mainly looking for a spot to shoot .22's and shotguns, with some larger caliber stuff (maybe).

Do any of the fine members of The High Road have some property or a buddy/brother/uncle/godparent/neighbor/cousin/whomever who does? Would you be interested in a new shooting buddy?

I'm mostly a broke college student, so I can't really afford to pay for the usage (which would defeat the point of avoiding ranges...) but I'm more than happy to work out an exchange of services. Pest control, perhaps?:)

I would appreciate it greatly if anyone might be interested. Feel free to respond to this thread or PM me.

Y'all have a good day today and a better day tomorrow.

The only range I have been to is the Strickland range.

They do not let me shoot my machinegun or doubletap. I've been there once, I will not be there again. There are a few IDPA clubs in Volusia but overall I don't think there are too many places.

Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club (www.cfrpc.com) is an amazing place to shoot. Its a members only club, and a little expensive, but well worth the money. All that they ask is that you are safe. Half the time you're the only one on the range, the other half, you're on the range with good people. In general, there are no range nazis, but you will be asked to leave and you will have to go in front of the executive board if you or your guests are being unsafe. They have a lot of matches and classes on property, so you can have the chance to check out the range before you join...

I've only been to Strickland and I love the place. It's an outdoor range, no rentals, for $10 all day. They have a no rapid fire rule, paper targets only, rifles and pistols only. Ranges are 7/14/21 yards for the pistols, 25/50/100 for rifles. I believe they are open Tuesday through Sunday 8am-5pm.

I'm interested in finding another range only because I work late and sleep late and unless I make special plans I can't be out there for any range time before the 5pm closure.

Ocala is free but you are taking your life into your hands at that place. If you can get there before the yahoo's then maybe.

I like the range on 46 by Mims. I think it is called the Titisville Range. Plus you can get a great burger and beer afterwards at the Airboat/ gator camp at the end of the road. McGloughlins I think its called.

I shoot at Titusville Rifle and Pistol Club. It's 5 miles from my home.

The range is 4 miles west of I-95, exit 223 (highway 46). It's real easy to get to. Cost is $10 for non-members. The hours of operation for the public are limited and I advise you to call (321) 268-1312 and wait for the answering machine to pick up, and the recorded announcement will tell you the hours of operation for the week.

It's a very nice outdoor range.

Good luck!

New one opened last year close to you. I will join them as soon as they finish their construction so that they can have the 600 yard rifle range opened at the same time pistol ranges are opened. Currently now you cannot do both on the same day.

A bit further our from you near Geneva is the SCGAA:

I belong to them. Nice 300 yard rifle range, variety of pistol range, plinking range and hosts a bunch of activities. Also, free admission to the public on the first Sunday of every month.

I live in Orlando and travel to the Ocala Forest range to shoot anything other than handguns. Rifle range is only 100 yards, so it's not exactly suitable for honing your rifle skills, but if you just want to have a fun afternoon blasting away at some targets or shooting skeet, it's a decent enough (and free) place to go. However, as one of the above posters noted, there are from time to time some pretty unsafe gun handlers there because they have nobody on duty as a range officer.

Last time I was there a young man wanted to try out my M44, so I asked his grandfather if it was all right with him. Grandpa kindly invited me to try his M1 Garand, M1 carbine, and K98K. The time before that I got to try a Sig P226 and a Glock G26 in exchange for letting someone try out one of my pistols.

If you can travel to Saint Augustine, come on up to the Ancient City Shooting Range. I shoot black powder there, as do re-enactors from the Castillo de San Marcos. They're also a facility for police training. If you can come up on a weekday, it's not very crowded, as it is membership only. I got in as a member early, so no initiation fees. Right now, it's $250 for an initiation - and levels of membership go from $100 and up. The one I've got is the .38 level ( caliber level is membership type - not what you shoot ). It's $250 a year, and can be paid in installments. So for me, it's $26 a month, and I can go any time, Monday - Friday with no extra charge. The people who run the place are part of one of Saint Augustine's well-known families ( the Usinas, for those who know the area ), and they're really nice, friendly people.

Only thing that's really around is Strickland. Yeah the range fees went up and the rules are a bit much but it's really not more than anywhere. I guess you could try out that one place on A1A, the name of which escapes me.

Hey Packman, you wouldn't happen to be a Riddle guy would you?

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Flame Red, thanks for the links. Volusia Gun and Hunt club looks interesting, I think I may give them a call.

I don't have much interest in driving all the way out to the Ocala range to deal with idiots.

Cleardiddion, I'm not much interested in Strickland. Their rules suck. I've spent enough time and money punching holes in paper, I want somewhere to shoot something reactive. Preferably somewhere I can blast away at cans, draw from the holster, etc without idiots breathing down my neck about safety or making me feel unsafe.

Actually, I am a Riddle guy, but I don't advertise it much. I'm not thrilled to claim it. You one yourself?

I actually recently joined the Volusia County Skeet and Trap club, which satisfies my shotgun itch, but doesn't help with anything else...

Guilty as charged.
When school starts back up again look around on campus for the Gun Club, we'd be thrilled to have you join us there.

I used to be a member of the Gun Club, but I had something else pop up during the same time slot as meetings, and I figured I could go shoot without being a member of the club, so I took my leave 2 years ago. When do y'all meet these days? I might could be convinced to join back up for the short time I have left. :)

Ah, you're a part of the senior club now eh?
I know how that goes, I just got in there myself.

Let's see...if you were on two years ago you must've been around when all the originals were around. Did you come on camping trips with us?

As for the meeting place, we've been meeting in the COB for basically the past two years and I don't see that changing up anytime soon. You should come out this fall, we have a bunch of people who have been going to the Volusia Hunt and Gun Club for the IDPA and carbine shoots.
