Probably not, but several lines of prototypes leading to the vz.58 were indeed chambered for 7,62x45 round. Vz.52 LMG and rifle were designed for x45 and later convretd to x39.

The UK59 LMG is in x54R, and is largely the same design concept as the VZ (but with a BRNO/BREN style gas piston system). The bolt looks essentially the same, and is pretty close in size, too, but the locking surfaces are about twice the VZ58's and the bolt face is obviously larger.

Just got my VZ58!

Hey, I finally got my VZ58. It has a 11.75" barrel, folding stock and is in .223 remington.

Alfon99: Can you make it a bit more black, pls?;)
I really like the way it looks.
And welcome to the Vz. club!

btw: What are the gun laws of Uruguay? (My quick research outcome was rather laconic..) Can you ccw?

Now that is cool!
Rifles with barrels shorter than 16" are more trouble for us to obtain here in the U.S. but that one looks like a keeper!

Gun laws are IMHO, one of the best if not the best in south america. Conceal Carry is allowed but you need a permit, and you can only carry handguns. It is no OC so if you have a holster there must be a layer of cloth over it. To buy guns you need a permit (THATA) and with that permit you can buy freely pistols up to 9x19, revolvers up to .44 mag, rifles up to 6.5mm caliber, and ALL shotgun gauges. There is absolutely no restriction regarding SBR's like my vz58, Not sure about short barreled shotgun but I think there is no restriction also regarding SBS. If you want to own a full auto, or a gun with larger calibers than those I listed, you need another permit which is some kind of collector permit, and then you can have virtually any gun, though with some guns it must lack some of the parts that make it functional. The only drawback of living here is the cost of guns and ammo. Not an issue with .22's, but with larger calibers.

Yeah. Here there is no restriction on SBR's, and that's really cool. In fact, I just shot my first magazine through it, with no problems other than a dud. But it really makes a loud BOOM! And hollywood-style muzzle flash :D.

Thats stupid anyway, my vz.58 spent quite some time IN school in condition 3 and killed noone..

And not to be offtopic, I should get new stock by summer if testing goes well.

Bohemus, that's looks like a pretty nifty stock (other than the shiny silver Al., which I'm sure will change in the production model)...is that your own design or just a prototype that you've found and purchased one of the early copies?

:)

Nope, thats gun of one designer who is keen vz.58 enthusiast and machinist so he invents and makes accesories for himself and if there is demand also for rozpad.cz forum members. e.g. I use his muzzle break and lower handguard, and this stock seems to be the best option out there - less bulkier than ar15 stocks, lighter than Zahal etc...

I'm guessing it's collapsible? I'm trying to compare it with the excellent if Spartan factory folding stock. I like the current steel stock on mine, just need to stretch it 1" so it can swing closed over a drum, and tack on a cheek riser.

You guys have .22 ammo?!

Aside from that, it's cool to see the VZ-58 taking off and carving out its own niche. I think the VZ is a great rifle - high quality with a milled receiver, but lighter than a stamped AK. They've got a lot going for them. I've only shot a few magazines through a friend's, but I like them.

Alright, alfon99 you're being excommunicated from the club for taking all of the .22LR and rubbing it in (in addition to the comments on SBRs)...you might as well go ahead and tell us how warm it is down there. :p

Not warm really, yesterday we had the first freeze/frost of the year and summer ended just 3 days ago...

Well that's no fun, I knew it the seasons were swapped from ours and figured that it would still be quite warm there. Hope you don't have a winter like ours (which is seemingly never-ending).

:)

Yes, it is collapsible.. with handsaw
Really, Youll get long tube and shorten it according to your needs. Intetion was to make straight stock as light as the original one.

alfon99: Thats funny about the snow as it started to snow even here, after several weeks of dry sunny 20°C (68 F) "winter" weather. Just switched to summer tires :banghead:

will be picking up another vz58 this week, no its not a vz2008. a friend of mine purchased his czechpoint vz back in 2009 and at the time sold him my fab defense polymer hg, which is still on the rifle. back in 2009 after installing the hg he bought from me, he shot it that day and not even 100 rounds down the tube....up until this day. great timing as my tax refund in the mail last week:). its the sporter with the skeleton stock, and to be honest that stock feels right on that rifle...me like. its the glossy black finish and the serial #4xx, not bad for $750. this will be my tactical set up vz58, will post pics

I picked up a Century Arms VZ2008. Trigger had no creep but the extra wide American sear engages both the semi and auto sear springs givingn a trigger pull > 10 lb. I removed the auto sear spring (just bent it and it broke off at the base) and now I have a very smooth 5 1/8 lb trigger that will probably break in a little more. Very nice.

The only downsides are lots of gunpowder on my left hand, the burning hot front grip and the diminutive pistol grip that I can't even get my pinky on.

After shooting, I decided that I actually like the slant break.
