When I first started reloading with my whack-a-mole Lee Loader, I picked up a pound of W760 at a gun show because it was cheap. Combined with 50gr Remington PSPs, I started getting pretty decent accuracy out of my 22-250 and I was hooked.

The W760 got shelved in lieu of H380 in the 22-250 as I got a "real" press, and as I started loading more calibers I branched out to other Hodgdon powders, specifically Varget and H4831.

As the price of reloading components has risen, Winchester powders are have not gone up as much as the H-powders; both W760 and W748 are $4-5/lb cheaper than all the Hodgdon powders I currently use.

So....I'm wondering if there are folks out there who use and/or prefer either W748 or W760 powders for their rifles, and why that might be (other than cost).

FWIW, the calibers I reload for are 223, 22-250, 260, 270, & 30-06 with plans to start 204 and 7mmRM.

I use the W760 and W748 powders in my .30-06 and AR-15 for paper punching loads. Decent accuracy, burns clean enough for me, and affordable. No reason to not buy them from my experience.

I'll tell you this, W760 is the same exact powder as H414 so if you're using H414 you can directly substitute W760 into the recipe.

I'm a big fan of Winchester powders although I don't use the rifle powders much. If W760 was $4-$5/lb cheaper here it would be my 30-06 powder without a doubt. Nothing wrong with W748 in the 30-30 or .223 either. (3 of the 4 rifle calibers I reload)

While it's true you can load a bunch of different cartridges with just 2 or 3 powders, I've never found a single powder optimal for more than 3 to 5 cartridges (in my case that was H4831SC). The only cartridge for which Win. 760/H414 is my go to powder is for a 222 Remington and I've tried it in several of the cartridges you mention. I've also tried Win. 748 in several cartridges and never found it to be the best one for any of them.

If all you want is 100 yard big game hunting accuracy, you can get by with one or two powders for 10 cartridges. If you want the best powder for a particular cartridge/bullet weight accuracy wise, then most of the time you won't find one powder optimal for more than a couple of cartridges. Actually, if you load for 2 different guns chambered for the same cartridge, you may get better accuracy with a different powder for each gun.

I load for all of the cartridges you load for and are planing to load for except one and to do so, I use 5 different powders.

I use 748 in my 223/22-250 loads for hunting loads. But have noticed that it does have a point of impact difference with temp change. Have never used w760. I use varget for target shooting for groups does much better over different temps.

use 748 for 223, 308, 307 and 30-30. Mostly with Mag primers. Extremely consistent out of powder measure for bulk loading below max charges, and very accurate with mag primers. It is not as clean as some other stick powders, and mostly colder/cooler weather where i live. Just got tired of trying lots of different powders, and spend more time shooting.

My prewar m70 30.06 and ww 760 have a love relationship going. H414 has sneaked in on occasion when ww 760 was out. The old gal didn't know the difference.

I use W760 in my 243 and 30-06 and get very good results. The powder measures easily and burns relatively clean, but I have not purchased any in quite some time so I have not noticed the difference in price. I did a quick check at the PowderValley website and W760 is listed for $18.60 for 1Lb, H414 is listed $17.90 and H4895 is listed for $19.75
