Walter E. Williams hits another home run...

I fail to see what is so "brilliant"
if he were white, people here wouldn't be gushing
No; I'm already familiar with him.
Me thinks this fellow may have a problem with Dr. Williams' genetic heritage. :scrutiny:
That's too bad. Dr. Williams is a truly color blind individual deserving of much greater respect and admiration than the MSM allows him.

Back OT:
"Passing this legislation will go a long way to protecting those who put their lives on the line every day for us.
Since when did a law stop a criminal from perpetrating a crime? Isn't that the literal definition of 'criminal'? :banghead:

FYI, Walter Williams was on the short list to be Ron Paul's VP.

Why use that word
Because that's how I talk, think and sometimes write. If there are some inoffensive slang words I can use to convey my meaning more succinctly, I'll use them. Why do you ask?

I think props is derived from "propers" which came from Aretha Franklin's song "Respect." Gimme my propers. Bet ya didn't know dat. ;)

I like the guy. He used to substitute for Rush now and then. I thought he was a great radio talk show host. He has a way of using words that is way above average. He is also good at making difficult things understood in fairly simple ways.

I honestly have the feeling that if he were white, people here wouldn't be gushing about how bright and "honorable" he is or that "I would vote for him" etc.

I honestly didn't know he was black. It really doesn't change my respect for him.
In a time when poli-chickens are trying to get into power or remain there by double talking or outright lying, and the lawyers are always trying to use bigger words and numerical references to laws made in the 1700's, it great to finally see someone who is willing to take the time to explain something in simple terms so everyone can understand.

The man is a natural leader. I'd have to hear him out on some of his other policies, but barring something major, I'd vote him in for president. But I'd probably feel guity later for putting such a man in that position.

TCB, a number of years ago, we had a man on talk radio here in Detroit by the name of Mark Scott. He often had Dr. WIlliams on his program, and I was fortunate enough to call in one morning to ask him a question.
My question to Dr. Williams was " Would you ever consider running for the Presidency?"

Dr. Williams response was" I refuse to surrender my principles."

He would have my vote in less than a heartbeat, if he was so inclined to run.

Mine too!

BTW I don't care what color a man is, IF he behaves like a MAN. Dr. Williams, is a man who loves his family, loves his country, works very hard, and has tremendous principles. I may be white, but I respect good men, no matter how they look, where they are from, their religion, or any other facet of their lives!

No offense but I fail to see what is so "brilliant" about a fairly simple position which has been stated many times over, by other people.

The value of sound reasoning in print is a lot like the value of real estate:

Location, Location, Location.

Mr. Williams has the gravitas to make the message heard at the right place and at the right time.

I've saved every episode of Rush's program that Dr. Williams has hosted. Indeed a very brilliant man and he has a great way of making the complicated understood.
I've learned most of my economics by listening to and reading work by him and Thomas Sowell.
He would be a great candidate for any office!

At least part of his "brilliance" is in his ability to explain economic issues in terms that we all can understand. He often uses very simple straightforward examples and analogies.

Yep. That's how I learned of him. I've been a fan for years. However, I think I would prefer to have him on the Supreme Court rather than in the White House. No term limits. :D

Hear, hear! Well put!

He's one of my favourite columnists along with Thomas Sowell. His way of bringing clarity to ostensibly complex topics is very helpful to me and, I'm sure, many others.

He is at least as good at untangling the mess that politicians are at creating, maintaining and further obfuscating it. That and his ability to actually reach out and be heard, make him valuable.

I have found Dr. Williams to be quite entertaining and brilliant in his analysis of every day economics and social issues. I first heard him as a guest host for Rush L. He has also had his own TV show, I believe on PBS? Knowing that Dr. Williams is Black is important. It makes him all the more special in today's world. He has been a champion for Black causes which involve hard work and ethics. I also enjoy his mentioning Mrs. Williams.

A few days after the murder of Liczbinski, Governor Rendell told a news conference, attended by state elected officials and top law enforcement officials, "The time has come for politicians to decide. You have to decide whether you're on their side -- the men and women who wear blue -- or whether you're on the side of the gun lobby." Instead of saying "whether you're on the side of the gun lobby," Rendell should have said "whether you're on the side of the criminal and the courts, prosecutors, prisons and parole boards that cut soft deals with criminals and release them to prey upon police officers and law-abiding citizens."

Williams cuts right to the crux of an issue. I can not understand how or why Gov. Rendell is so "wildly popular" in PA as the news media reports time after time. If Rendell gets the gun issue wrong, he is probably getting other issues wrong as well. But he does put forth a very credible presence when on TV. I have not studied the Gov's politics beyond his consistant anti-gun stand and support for Hillary Clinton.

Dr. Williams has earned the right to have his opinion published in the media and I'm thankful that he is around to paint it mostly right time after time. He his very credible and a clear thinker.

I think that's slightly misleading. If I understand him correctly, he doesn't want there to be much of a "cause" at all, at least not that pertains directly to blacks as being black. What he means is that blacks were doing fine simply doing what people in general ought to do to succeed in life, without a race-specific agenda, a neo civil rights movement based on guilt and victimhood.

It's just skin pigment, bone structure and some medical considerations, and it's time to let go of everything else regarding race. That goes for both negative notions such as racism, and "positive" notions such as collective racial "identity", ebonics dialect and the self destructive ideas that cause some to decry other blacks who want to work for a good life as "acting white". This last thing is something Williams has explicitly objected to.

Without asking him directly I can't know for sure though, but that's the impression I get. I may be going a bit off topic.

Walter Williams reputation preceeds him and his skin color is irrelevant. Yes, he spoke the obvious. He is in a position that gives a voice to Conservative thinking and values. He is often appearing on TV news shows.

I suggest that we not disparage him because he speaks the obvious - He has a microphone - let him shout it!

Many thanks to poper and Gary for bringing the article to me.

Since Gannett (the folks who invented the "News McNuggets" format) bought the Indy "Star" it's about as rare as chicken's lips to see the byline of any even mildly "conservative" columnist in it.

Unless, of course, it's text criticizes the current Administration, a prominent Republican political figure or conforms with their view of what constitutes "politically correct" policy.
