i was at the gun store the other day waiting for my girlfriend to finish her pistol course, and a kid i know came in and traded a springfield xd45 and a walther p22, both pretty much brand new. the dealer gave him 100 bucks for the p22. so afterwards i asked the dealer how much he would take for the p22 and i ended up getting it and a brick of CCI 22LR for $140. i know 22 rimfire pistols are kinda meh, and i know ive seen these things jam before, but i cant help but feel i scored. they are something like $330 new. i figure it will be a good little gun for plinking and target practice, especially for my girlfriend who doesnt like shooting my G23. anyways, any opinions on these things? the gun dealer said if i used CCI ammo it wouldnt jam but i dont really buy that.

People are going to trash it, that's what they do. I have one, shoots fine, but yes, it will jam from time to time. Oh and be prepared for 100 posts saying you should have got a buckmark.

yeah i figured it would be bashed, its not like i bought it to use as my EDC or anything, just a plinker, idk what a buckmark costs, but to me $140 is a pretty good deal

Had one. Ran like a champ with CCI mini mags. Jam free.

The thing was a piece of junk, but the guy that had it next it put another several thousand rounds through it and it is still humming along. I had about 1k down the tube when I traded it.

$140 is an okay deal IMO.

It's a great little fun and inexpensive plinker. After some issues during the first couple hundred rounds, mine has been dead reliable with everything I've fed it. It's a lot of fun to shoot but it ain't a target pistol.

It sounds like you got a great deal. I love mine. My advice is to try a few brands to find the ammo your likes.

Mine loves CCI Minimags (not surprising) and likes Remington Gold Bullets almost as well. (That was a surprise) Your mileage may vary.

It's a fun gun I shoot a lot. Don't let the H8ers get you down. :)

haha i dont really care, i wasnt looking for a target pistol. just something i can throw in my pocket and shoot at the range and not watch all my .40 go down the tubes.

Recently got one and I am pleased with it. Fairly accurate, and while I have only put a few rounds down the pipe, they were fed, bulk pack stuff and it ate them just as well as either my Ruger MKIIs or my Buckmark. It is a fun little gun, and IMHO you got a very good deal.

You got a great deal on it. I have one, and I also have a Buckmark. Is it as good as the Buck?, no, bur it's still a fun little gun.

Enjoy.

Thats pretty good....You went 13 posts without a bash. I guess you have to state that you know there will be bashing to avoid it.....I shall try this in the future. Now onto my post. I bought one for my wife and it has ran really good with CCI mini mag and blazer. It has some issues with fed bulk and seems to like remington bulk. Its a fun gun. A little small for my hands and its pink camo.....so I don't shoot it much :D. Also you got a hell of a deal..Period!

I have one, and it's been great. I've had a few failures here and there, but average for a .22. I'm fairly convinced that most of the failures have been from crappy ammo. The same ammo I have problems with are often a problem in my dad's Ruger Mark III as well.

I picked it over most of the other .22s available because of how similar it is to larger caliber semi-automatics. I bought it with my wife in mind, hoping that it would ease her into a larger caliber. As it's turned out I love shooting it.

I bought one of these new last year and it was a gun I tried to love but just couldn't. Despite the low ammo costs, the combination of inaccuracy, lack of recoil, and constant jamming and misfires took a lot of the "fun factor" out of it for me. It even became embarrassing for me to let friends use it at the range because it would malfunction so regularly... most of them gave up on it. I traded it in this fall for a new 9mm.

As a disclaimer, I do take care of my guns so it was always cleaned and well lubricated. Still, it would consistently FTE the first two rounds out of every Magazine, even with CCI minimags. It was essentially in operable with the cheap stuff. I don't want to seem like a basher, I just really didn't have a good experience with the P22. I hope your experience is better.

I too tried to like mine for a few years, and ended up trading it away for the same reason as those above.

Hey, but for $140... Sounds like a good deal to me. I'm sure you could get that back out of it if you turn out to hate it.

Mine also liked the Remington Bulk Golden packs the best.

I like mine. If i were to do it again though, i would get the short barrel. I don't like the long one since the extension comes loose.

You got a good price on a firearm. The Walther P22 has historically had some issues with feeding which were attributed to bad magazines. The Walther P22 is also picky about ammo. It seems to function best on higher velocity ammo and CCI Mini-Mags are about as good of a higher velocity rimfire round that you are going to find. Just keep those things in mind with this gun, clean it regularly, and it'll be a firearm that should last you a decent amount of time.

@digsigs, thats the joy of pretty much every 22 rimfire pistol ive ever shot, you shoot till it malfunctions, then throw it at your target as hard as you can. haha

I have one. It doesn't like the cheap stuff. It doesn't like the ultra high powered CCI either. the standard CCIs work really well and as long as you stick to middle of the road CCIs you will be fine. PS, I sure wouldn't choose it as a self defense weapon.
