Does anyone have experience with this model Walther?

I found one for sale for $429.99 after $50.00 mail in rebate.

Is this a good price?

How reliable is it?

I had a Walther PPK/S Interarms .380 and it would shoot FMJ all day long everyday, but would not feed the first JHP. I didn't have a problem with that since I actually preferred the FMJ for the penetration vs a JHP in a .380 caliber. It was by far one of the most accurate handguns I've ever fired, even out to 25 yrds. You need to be aware of the dreaded Walther bite though, the design of the gun allows it to cut the web of your shooting thumb/hand if it is held to high. I learned quickly to grip it properly to avoid that (funny how quickly we can learn something if properly motivated). I like them and have regretted selling mine ever since (sold it to my boss and he knows if ever up for sale I'm buying it). As far as price goes would be a little on high side where I'm from, but guess it depends on your location and if you like it.

Sorry just reread your post and realized you are talking about a new one, price wise I was comparing used to new, my bad.

Thanks for the info. I saw it online for that price and was curious if it was in the ball park for that model because it's substancially higher than some of the other 380's I've been eyeballing.

i have a older 80's interarms walther ppk/s blued, and i'm a great shot with it its very accurate and mine will feed hollowpoints fine, but it had a problem with cci blazers,so it doesnt like real cheap ammo, other than that, she's a fine weapon :D

I bought my .380 Inerams PPK/s at a Police confiscated firearm auction years ago and its been a very reliable pistol that feeds all the types of ammo that I've put into it. I keep it loaded with Federal Hydra-shoks for those times it get carried.

This is the second PPK/s I've owned, the first was a .32 acp, and prefer the /s model since it has the longer PP handle and one additional round than the PPK (no /s) model.

I've been thinking of a Walther PPK too. I'm looking for an Interarms model because I don't like the extended tang on the S&W ones.

Walther at a fraction of the cost: Bersa Thunder 380

It gets pretty good reviews from owners. If you go to youtube.com and search for Bersa Thunder 380, there are several vids on it, most of which are pretty good.

The price of $430 is about as good as you'll probably find for a new PPK/S. I would offer two suggestions however;

There is a plethora of used Walthers on the market. You may be able to save as much as $200 by looking for a gently used, older pistol. You do lose any warranty by going the used route of course.

If you opt for the S&W Walther and rebate, then you may want the other offer of two magazines instead of the $50. Mags run about $30 each.

I have over the years owned 1 Walther PPKS and 3 Walther PP(s).

The PPKS was in .380 (German), 1 of the PP(s) was a .380 (Manurhin Walther)and the other 2 were .32(s) (Maunrhin Walther).

The one I am currently carrying is a .32. Not arguing which cartridge is better - that has been done enough on THR. But, in my Walthers, the .32(s) have been 100% reliable. The .32 is milder in recoil and quicker for followup shots.

My .380(s) were a little more particular about ammo during break-in, but malfunctions afterward was rare. Not as good as the .32 versions which have digested everything I have run through them.

Nine shots from the .32 is a pretty impressive package. I have not shot or owned one of the new S&W Walthers - but if they are anything like the European models, they are a well made classic.

Price sounds about right. You can find the Manurhin Walther in .32, used, in excellent condition, for around $275 - $300. They are European police trade-ins. They are fairly easy to find on the internet sites right now. The Manurhins are post war Walthers that were made in France. High quality guns!!!

Sorry , spelled it wrong the first time.

Skeptiq,

Thanks for the heads up. I did a search on the Bersa and found some great reviews on it. I like that the grip looks longer than the Ruger LCP even without the mag.

I handle the Lcp at the gun show and could only get one finger fully on the grip with my ring finger slipping off the bottom. I know they offer an extended mag but I would prefer a better grip without relying on the mag.

I will check with some of the gun shops to see if anyone stocks it. I would like to handle one before I purchase it. I found a site on the web that sells them but every model was sold out.

I'm seriously considering the deluxe model with the higher capacity mag. ;)

Thanks again for the info!
