I too am looking for a Russian Saiga SLG21 imported and modified by Arsenal / Fime Group.

The problem I am finding is that all the companies that used to sell these guns (K-var, etc) are all out of stock on all the various versions of the SLG21.

I don't know what is happening right now ... maybe these guns are just not being imported from Russia like they used to be, or maybe they are not being modified fast enough by Arsenal / Fime to fulfill the need. Whatever it is, companies like K-var have none in stock.

Also, I have seen the price damned need double in the last 3 years. The price for a SGL21 from K-var is now right at $1,000 for this gun (but of course, there not available, so it makes no difference).

Do any of you think these guns are ever going to become available again anytime soon? ... Do you think the prices will ever come down to normal?

Thanks,
Ron

I wouldnt worry about the sgl21 too much. If you convert a factory fresh saiga you have the same rifle essentially. Same receiver, bcg, barrel.

[In bold] Um... No. Before I call you out, cite many reasons why you are wrong, and raise the BS flag, I will ask you to explain this further. Because there is no possible way Im understanding your statement as it reads.
Im saying all thing being otherwise equal.. a steel barrell will shoot more accuratly then a chrome lined barrel...

If you want an AK-47, find a MAADI or a Norinco. They are gonna cost ya...

Now:

If you want an AKM to shoot and aren't too choosy about it representing any "real" military AKM's, pick one buy it. The import stuff is all sort of OK, and all sort of "not really authentic". They are all good shooters. Buy one.

If you want a *1960's 1970's 1980's military clone* AKM, the nicest I have seen are Yugo parts sets built on Novak Spud receivers. These represent a very high quality "as issued" AKM.

If you *really* want a collectable military clone AKM with todays-world history, try one of these:

And if you like to tinker, you can build a faux-AKM of good quality from a Saiga.

At one end of the spectrum are WASR's, which can be fine shooters. On the other end of the spectrum there are the (truly) collectable MAADI's and the (custom built) historically correct Tabuks. In the middle are all of the rest, which are a ployglot of things authentic and fake in a variety of quality levels.

All of 'em go "bang" every single time.

Buy one.....

I had a WASR 10/63 and what I didn't like about is was the slop in the mag well. Instead of having the "dimple" in the receiver to size the magwell, they have rails spot welded inside. Magazines always had a sloppy fit in mine, so mag reliability was an issue.

My AK-74 has the dimples, and mags fit snugly.

I was considering the same thing earlier this year and decided upon:

Arsenal SAM7R-61
Bulgarian Surplus Stock Set (refinished it)

To be 922r compliant, I can only use US mags.
