Hello all,

I’m he’s here and I’m looking for some help reassembling a wards Hercules 12ga. I believe I’ve got the receiver put back together other than the hammers. I can not for the life of me get them back in and lined up with the pin holes. Am I doing something wrong? Would anyone here happen to have the reassembly instructions or tips to help me get this back together?

Thank you all!

I am not sure about this one. I think that it would be better in the gun smithing section than in general though. Usually you need slave pins and/or a jig to get multiple parts back in line in those. I think it is actually a savage.

I think this shotgun is, or is similar to the Stevens 311 family. They take four hands to reassemble. My trick is to clamp the receiver in my drill press vise, open side up. Have the hammers resting on the mainsprings. Put a 1/4" rod which has a wedge shaped end in the drill chuck and use the feed handle to push one hammer down against the mainspring. The hammer has a depression in the back that the wedge fits into, probably this is how the factory assembles them. When the hammer is in place and the hole is lined up, use the quill lock to hold it while you insert the hammer pin in partially. Then move to the other hammer and repeat, tapping the pin on through.
Takes longer to describe than to do it.
