Ok, installing my Wilson drop in grip safety today on my Colt Defender. I have tried two different ways off reassembly:

#1 is putting the MSH back in first, then cocking the hammer back and attempting to put the thumb safety back in. When doing this, I cannot get the thumb safety completely back into the frame.

#2 I cock the hammer, and put the thumb safety in the frame, then put the MSH in and install the pin. This works except it also locks everything up, trigger, hammer, grip safety, all feel solidly stuck.

Everything looks correct while reassembling the sear spring and hammer strut, so I'm pretty sure things are lined up correctly. But, I could be wrong. I am no expert. I've had this gun apart several times but always put it back together stock. Other Defender owners haven't seemed to have any problems with the Wilson as far as drop and go. Which order should I reassemble, and is there anything I should be watching in particular?

After further inspection, is this my problem?

The tabs on the Wilson GS that go in behind the MSH seem to be much bigger than the tabs on the Colt. Do I need to go at them with a file and match them up? As far as I can tell, this is the only difference between the two parts.

Did you first fit the arm to the trigger? You have to fit the arm on a Wilson drop in. There is a little card that comes with them and shows you where to file. You file the lower part (and the point) of the front of the arm and when that fits properly and blocks the trigger and releases without rubbing the bow, you file the underside to adjust the release point.
