WARNING! Defective Winchester Ammo!

This is interesting. I found two in some WWB about a month ago. Just happend to spot them before loading.

Actually, my wife spotted the first one after she removed the first one from a Glock mag she was clearing to insert some defense loads I wanted her to practice with.....I looked through the balance of the ammo (100 roumd box) and found another. These are .40sw BTW.

Here they are...

All the other cartridges shot and looked fine. I have even bought more WWB, but I make sure to look at each one now before they go in my guns.

Seeing how I'm fairly new at shooting these service caliber pistols and have not run through near the ammount of ammo as some of you, this inspecting ammo thing is new to me. THe closest I've ever came to bad ammo in 40 years of buying I've only had cosmetically OK duds.

Whoops,

Forgot to mention that this concerned me, so I when online and found a contact number a few days after I found the defects. Found out that this ammo is actually made by Olin (under Winchester name???). Got through an intial contact and was able to leave a message to some guy's answering machine in thier production department. I left my cell number, but the guy never called back.

"Oh we can't give you a full refund because you already fired some of the ammo".

That's pathetic customer service! Bad ammo can "KILL YOU". Won't be buying Winchester ammo any time soon. Hope they can get it together.

I am the OP. For those of you who criticize me for demanding a full refund or showing the world what kind of company they have become, I say this. I work at a company where customer service is our #1 priority. When a product is defective, it is either replaced or refunded in full, regardless if the rest of the product is ok.

Treat me well, and I will promote your company all day long. Otherwise, I will take any means I feel necessary to share my experiences with others, and they can make up their own mind as to if the service/product is reasonable.

I bought exclusively winchester ammo for years before this. Since then (it's been 1 year) I have bought exclusively Federal. Any time I am in the store and ammo is brought up, I share my experience with WWB ammo and their customer service.

So could winchester have "bought me off"? Sure they could have by giving me the customer service I expect of them, refunding OR REPLACING my purchase of 2 boxes of ammo which were full of defective rounds. To me that is not an unreasonable demand. It's not like I was asking for $100 or 5 boxes of ammo here. Yes I had and have the receipt for purchasing them. Yes I had nearly 1 full box left over that I was more than willing to send back to them. What they sold me is unacceptable. This site is a VERY small section of the shooters out there and look at the other problems users here have reported using winchester ammo. Eventually somebody is going to blow up their gun, and winchester will probably send them a coupon and tell their staff they need to up production to make up for the loss.

I totally agree they should have just reimbursed you for whole box of ammo! I would not shoot the rest of that ammo. Unless I weighed it and took a caliper to it. Even then I don't know that I would shoot the rest of the box. I'd expect this is if were shooting wolf or silver bear but not Winchester!

Last night I was shooting my sig226, when I had a flash of light (flame) come out the back of my slide. The base of a Winchester round half blown out. The box was purchased a few weeks ago at cabelas.
Searching for similar events led me to your site. Apperantly Winchester ammo sucks. By the looks of all the posts, winchester does not care about shooters well being by the product they produce.
I know this is an old thread. I just wouldn't you all to know things haven't changed.

3 years since I switched to federal. Only $1 more per box and I've yet to see crap like this in the box. What a shame to see Winchester's quality control still havn't improved!

About a week ago had a misfire in white box .223 45gr. from Walmart. I fired most of the rest of the box without incident.

Primer fired with no/bad powder and lodged a bullet in the barrel, in an AR!

I had this happen to federal brass D3D21203-74EB-47DF-8F1E-026BB6FE58B5_zpsew6pchqe.jpg

I used to like WWB ammo before they farmed it out to Olin. I haven't bought it since I found out what they did. I probably still have some of the old stuff before it was made in the new factory. It was far better ammo at least in the .45 ACP realm. I first noticed it was strange how they bumped up the price of the WWB on some boxes then sold others at the old price. Funny thing was the regular price stuff was not nearly as accurate as before. Then I figured out why. Bye Bye WWB. I'm sure you're making a nice profit from other people. You aren't getting my money.
