You guys have really gotten me thinking about watches with this thread!!!
Years ago, I was given my uncle's Longines Lindbergh commemorative watch and have taken to wearing it when running around on my days off. It's a beautiful watch and I'm glad to be enjoying it instead of having it sit in a box in the wardrobe. I'm also amazed at how people treat me differently when the see me wearing a watch that I assume is worth more than a thousand dollars (I've never checked on the value of this model, but Longines does make some pricey watches.)
Anyhow, now I'm looking for something to replace my work watch (a G-Shock on a "The Band" watchband) as I am no longer satisfed with a watch when I can have a chronograph. Weird how this stuff grabs you.
Long story short, any ideas for a chronograph that says quality, but isn't too expensive to wear to work when your job is physical? I'd like a largish face, with numerals. I would like some type of illumination that I can make out in low light, either a backlight, sidelight, or tritium, though I'm not too sure about tritium. The one watch that I've seen, that I like, is in all of the gun rags. It's called the MTM tri-light, or some such, and has three LED bulbs in the face that can actually be used as a mini-flashlight. It's soooo good, it's used by special forces operators around the world.
I like the steel band, but what about durability in a watch that costs around $300? Can you get a good movement in this price range? Those Luminox watches look good, but I don't want anything that says "Navy SEALS" or the like.
And I don't need something that has fifteen different functions. Yea, all those different faces look neat, and I have used the ones on my Longines, but I don't use them all the time and they are not pertinent to my line of work. Anyone still making a simply time-keeper?
I'd really like to hear your thoughts on the matter. Oh, and that Omega Seamaster is the complete shiznit! Talk about a beautiful piece!!! Out of my price-range, but damn is that hot. Congrats.
