Its true, you don't buy an automatic watch for accuracy.
My Santos (Cartier quartz)is accurate to a second a month. With daylight savings time, you reset it twice a year and leave it at that.
Swiss certified movements I believe are +6/-2 seconds per day. So yes, once a month or for those times when its off my wrist for more than 2 days and runs down, it needs to be reset.
But the Rolex doesn't need a trip every 1.5 years for a battery change and cleaning. Recommended interval for a cleaning is 5 years and many have their watches 20 years and they run accurately without service.
So it all depends on what you are buying, instrument or work of art. Souless electronics or heart of gears . . . . .
