Just like the antis have been doing, we need to take out a large ad in some prominent publications explaining in simple words why the AWB was a sham. I would be willing to kick in a substantial donation toward this if you are too. This would be a better place to spend some money than buying your next gun, for sure. Also, if we get a good rally going here to do this, maybe we could get some sponsorship from the NRA. We really need to take this kind of action because most people have no idea what the ban did and what an AW really is. Until they understand the truth, we are at risk of a new ban in the near future.

For the life of me I cannot see why the NRA doesn't do such a thing. Its like they have conceded the entire debate for the population at large and rely completely on political donations to support the cause. Thats fine until enough people are brainwashed that gun=bad...then no matter how much loot you shovel around, the congresscritters won't vote your way.

Very good idea. Someone who everyone trusts on this board might coordinate and I'll certainly send funds.

You are right - if the ban were not dying now I would agree.

I have no idea why the NRA can't turn out slick ads debunking the assualt weapon myth.

But maybe now would be the best time to shut up about it. Let the public at large forget about these guns. When the bath of blood fails to materialize Joe Public will turn his attention to other things.

I am split over the contrasting ideas of continuing to be vocal about pro-gun rights, and letting everyone forget about it. Forgetting about would be nice, but unfortunately the antis in the government are not going to do so. Even when time goes by and there is no blood bath, soccer moms are still going to rally behind a ban if it comes up just because they will hear dubious words like "assault weapons", and we may be taken by suprise then. If a trusted THR member were interested in putting this together, I will give a nice contribution. I would even attempt to get donations from my friends at the local gunshops, whom I know do not use THR (because they don't use the Internet). Maybe this thread will grow and we can get some good ideas on whether / how to do something like this.

The public thinks machine guns are legal. If the sky does not fall the public will think machine guns being legal is no big deal. We should be honest no matter what, but spending money on it is a bit much.

It feels so good to have won! :D :neener:

In my opinion the fact that they are not machine guns is irrelevant. I am for machine guns and so called assault weapons being legal.

My thousandths post.

For those of you wondering why the NRA doesn't do an ad....

It's a really good question...at least PART of the answer, IMO, is that they've allowed themselves to be demonized as villainous, and therefore not a credible source of information on any topic in Joe & Jane Sheeple's eyes.

I've heard it too many times, "Yeah, but that's what the NRA says....", as if that meant the information was fairy tail dismissable.

Attempting to reason with leftist extremists is a lot like trying to teach cats to whistle, except less productive.
Agreed. But the battle is not for the extremists. They're convinced they're right. The PR campaign is aimed at the undecideds. You know them- the ones who hear the crap the left generates and accept it as truth be cause we refuse to object to it in any meaningful, visible way.

I'd rather run an ad campaign than practice the true meaning of Molon Labe, you know?

I beg to differ. I think that no matter what happens we will always have a huge population who wants to band guns, especially ones with a bad name like AW. Even if in the next few years gun crimes were to plummet, I know a lot of people who would still say that we should not own military guns. That is just the way they think, in good times and bad. So we will never be safe until they understand the truth about it all.

I feel good to have won too, but remember that the antis have already vowed to bring it up again next year, and when public opinion gets ahold of it again, we are trouble again. And also, all of the soccer moms are going to pissed when they figure out that Bush wants to let all of their kids get killed with machine guns.

We won, but only because the Pres is scared of the NRA, and so many Democrats are scared of losing their shirts before an election. I wish we would have won the right way - by having every American really understand the issue and kill it because it only makes sense to do so.

I think we still have a long war ahead of us. I hope I'm wrong.

I almost think it would be better if everyone just forgets about the now expired AWB. Let's face it 95% of American only care about AWs when the stupid media is complaining about them. It really is a big non-factor for most people.

Let it go. It is as much not a sham to those who listen to the propaganda as it isn't a sham to you. These are people that take everything a politician says at face value without bothering to research it. You will never, ever make them see any different so stop expending your energy. Focus on future generations. Make your kids and grandkids knowlegable and grateful for the freedoms most take for granted so that they don't piss it away like most everyone has been doing for the last half century or so.

Fool me once, shame on you...

Fool me twice, shame on ME....

Follow along with me ladies and gents, back to the days after Waco...

Remember the NRA's famous "Jack booted thugs" ad?

I thought that was one of the most effective and powerful ads ever, but the liberal press thought it was absolute treason.

LaPierre was hounded by Russert on meet the press, and while I thought he did ok, the press had a field day with "Jack booted thugs". I hung that in my work office for over a year. The press doesn't care to report facts, it cares to report headlines. Headlines are made by the politicians bleating about what citizens shouldn't be able to do... There is a wealth of talent
_right_here. Focus your energies, and lets give the NRA a leg up here.

In the time you've taken to read this post, you could've put your thoughts down in an email.... Do so. Fire it off to your local papers for letter to the editor or Op-Ed consideration. Flood them with the facts...

I'm working on mine now...

Run for Office

Not everyone can afford to run for a part time civil servant possition. Some of us with slightly checkered pasts know better than to apply some of that experience where natural born wisdom without the record will win hands down.
From a political seat RKBA can become an educational perogative. I am afraid to many students will missout on the best and worst of this country's history because states are not including it curiculum.
We have lots of work to do this year still. Ater which we will need to begin work on the 06 and 08 elections.
We all need to see this industry protected from the witch hunt.
We personaly need protections against prosecution in criminal and civil courts for protecting life and property. These are basics with many others deserving thought as well.
