Just thinking out loud here, but I think we would make a larger difference if we were unified. I've been on multiple forums, and all are going different directions. I've signed multiple petitions, and individually none have enough signatures to be noticed.

How do we consolidate our, and others, efforts to a make our voices heard?

The biggest contribution you and everyone else can make is to write your senators and governors and voice your opinion that future gun control will not solve the issue and you strongly oppose any more stripping of our rights. What makes them think that one more law will give them that perfect bubble where 20,000 laws have not?

Write your politicians, there is a link/web form on the NRA's website.
Also, if you haven't already, JOIN THE NRA TODAY!

A United Front

I'm hoping that the companies devoted to the AR15 platform will join forces for a united front. Maybe we should all urge them to do so. I'm talking about a concerted effort, not everyone for themsleves. Shared expense and shared gains.

Daniel Defense, Stag, Troy, Sabre Defense, BCM, S&W, DPMS, Magpu, Noveske, Patriot Ordinance, LMT, LWRC, Windham, Core15, Ruger, Sigarms, etc. The more the better.

With these companies all working for a common goal (ie, NO BAN ) then progress can be made, PRO-GUN public service announcements, PRO GUN Paid Commercial Programs, PRO GUN Web Ad campaigns, etc, all funded by these co-op dollars. Everytime someone goes online they need to be confronted with a tsunami of PRO GUN popups and Vids, and I'm not talking about ads on gun forums, we are already pro gun. We need the Keyword prompted ads focused on the broader audience.

We can't just depend on the NRA to get something done. Signing a dozen different mixed petitions and passive venting won't get it done.

The easiest way to overcome any Herculean Task is to enlist more help. Regardless of how many petitions are sent, politicians know best of all how people vote. The research is abundant and concise.

Rather than preach to the choir or write my Congressmen again about facts they are fully aware of, my goal is find as many new folks as possible to gravitate toward the shooting sports. Finding people with common concerns such as protecting their children is a wonderful opportunity to swing the odds.

I posted early this morning my thoughts on the subject and hope that as our Nation finds ways to help those in need that we the firearm enthusiasts can direct our efforts toward meaningful service that also furthers our cause of protecting everyone's Constitutional Rights. I hope THR members will pledge their commitment and share their experiences: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=690698

I would like to note that the gentleman who approached me: twice voted for our current President, is a Teamster Steward and was a longtime opponent of handgun ownership. Change the heart and the mind will follow.

The often-heard accusation is that the NRA is acting as a shill for gun manufacturers, and doesn't represent the rank-and-file gun owners. In making this accusation, the antigunners seek to undermine the influence of the NRA, and drive wedges between groups on the pro-gun side. Given this, I think the manufacturers should keep a very low profile, and let the gun owners themselves carry this battle. To the general public, whatever a gun manufacturer says is discounted, because of obvious monetary self-interest.

I understand your point here, but I'm not talking about manufacturer "X" making a commercial directly, but more like a political action committee ( PAC ) where they contribute to Pro gun advertising campaigns in more of a covert fashion. We need an agressive ad mix to take control of this debate and educate those who are misinformed regarding self defense and the positive use of firearms in a mass effort to offset all the "bad guys with guns" stories the media keeps enphasizing.

The NRA can't do it all. 5 million members are not enough. Some members care nothing about the AR15 or thirty round mags for that matter.

As for the gunowners carrying the battle, no problem. We could all donate to an adwords campaign ourselves, easily "outbidding" the anti-gunners for "keywords" related to the gun control debate, and begin to frame the issues from our perspective.

I say the best way to make your voice heard is to join as many of the gun owners groups as possible, join the NRA, your state gun groups, gun owners of america, and anyone else that will lobby for our side of things. You can join all of them, and have money left over to donate for the price of a cheap gun. Also if you have some personal contact with your congressman or senator, breifly tell them you support private ownership of firearms without restrictions on type or ammunition capacity. Don't sound like a nut, don't stalk them down, keep it simple, some of you will have personal connections with them, use them, they may be distant relatives, or you may go to the same church as their brother, etc. Just a few months ago I found myself in line at Walgreens behind my local congressman, as chance would have it I had just seen him speak at a local event an hour or so before, so opportunities do happen, just don't blow it when it happens to you, briefly say your bit, don't come off like a nut, and thank them for their service and their time.

Ike

p.s. it always helps to phrase it like you support them being for the position
