Am proficient with these handguns. I am going to pick one as my main ccw weapon. Right now I rotate a few as I feel the desire to carry a different application from time to time. But I feel that I just want to start carrying just one on a full time bases. What do you all think? What would you choose?

1.S&W Shield 9mm / 124 HST 8 rounds
2.Taurus G3c 9 mm / 124 HST 12 rounds
3.Taurus 85 38 Special / 130 HST 5 rounds
3. Ruger Speed Six 357 mag / 125 SJHP 6 rounds
4. Rossi 720 44 Special / 200 wadcutters 5 rounds

carry the biggest that you can carry as still be concealed.
Albeit I'm a revolver guy, the first handgun I conceal carried was a Glock 17. I stopped it because if you knew there was a gun on me you'd spot it pretty easily.
The Rossi might be a good choice because .44 Special is a great caliber.
If I was you I'd carry the Taurus G3c.

I have often chosen to carry my 4” Speed Six. I could certainly live with it, as an only gun. I recently added a shorter-barrel Speed Six, which awaits T&E.

I do not understand “rotation.” Some weapons are better than others, for a given environment/circumstance. Some fit a concealment profile better than others.

1. The original S&W Shield is annoyingly small, for me, particularly its narrowness.
2. I know absolutely nothing about the Taurus G3c.
3. I rarely desire to carry something as small as a J-Frame. A Taurus 85 is J-Frame-sized. The SP101 is a good minimum, for my hands.
4. I would rather have six rounds of .357 Magnum, than five rounds of .44 Special. The .44 is Special, but it is not THAT special.

I can meet all of my carry needs with my SP101, Speed/Security Six, and GP100 revolvers. Long-stroke DA is my least-perishable trigger skill, which is significant in these panic-demic times. I bought into the Glock system, because it was one of the authorized duty pistols, when I was LEO-ing, but I need frequent live-fire practice, with Glocks, to maintain what I consider to be acceptable skill. With almost no live-fire training, lately, my Glocks remain at home, these days.

I have a strong emotional attachment to the 1911 pistol system, as my first handgun was a 1911, so, will sometimes still tote a full-sized 1911. It is certainly not something I “need” to do, and, I will not try to proselytize.

Notably, if do tote a Glock, or a 1911, it is almost always in addition to the basic, fundamental Ruger revolver. If I am toting only one handgun, it is almost always a Ruger .357 revolver.

I think if you do your research you’ll find even 5 rounds is enough something like 99% of the time for civilian personal defense encounters.

Carry what you are confident in, can hit well with, trust the reliability of, and especially above ALL ELSE one that you’ll actually have with you when needed, i.e. one that won’t get left behind due to weight or bulk.

Caliber and capacity are largely moot if you look into this.

Anytime, anywhere (location nor time of day factored) which handgun would you prefer in hand to defend yourself?
Which handgun would you want to have on you in an area of greater "anticipated threat"? Strive to carry that, everywhere.

Me personally?
A revolver is out. 5-6 rounds is a nope for me.
Of those options, the Shield + spare mag would be the wherever, whenever.
The Taurus maybe, after I had thoroughly ensured reliability.

My answer partially depends on your environment. If you spend more time 'out in the wilds' than most, I'd go with the Ruger. If you're mostly an urban dweller, I'd definitely go with the Shield 9. I'm mostly urban, and have carried a Shield 9 for several years.

Assuming the G3C Taurus has proven reliable I would go with it. I ama bit prejudicial against Taurus because the G2C I owned had problems. The G3C is close in form factor to my CCW, Ruger Security 9nCompact with 15 round magazine loaded with Federal HST 124 grain.

As others have noted, I can't really answer for you because I don't know how you shoot and carry and what conceals, shoots and carries best.

But of that list, me personally, assuming I've vetted it and consider it fully reliable would pick the Taurus g3c. It's the closest to the size I like best for carry/shooting. Next would be the shield but I find them a bit too thin to shoot as well as I require a carry gun to shoot (I really gotta fondle a shield+).

That said, man would I love a Ruger Speed Six.

There is some combination of what you're most comfortable with, what you shoot the best, and what you're willing to carry.

I usually end up with a snub 38 or snub 44, but the reasons for that are shaped by things like my hand size and what I grew up shooting.

The chances of needing it are low. With that said if you do need it then think which one would you bet your life on. I bet my life and my family’s lives on my ruger lc9. If heading downtown then my G19. Just running to grocery store it’s the ruger

In my experience, what you choose to carry the most out of what you already own will happen naturally and can change over time (even back and forth). This is usually somewhat, if not mostly, dependent on what clothes you wear on a daily basis.

Shootability is most important, but most on that list are likely not too hard to be proficient with.

Just looking at your list, I would think #1 would be #1. But that's just me looking in from my point of view.

I'd ditch the Taurus, don't trust them. The .44 can be a bit much, I'm a big guy, and I still wouldn't want to be dealing with that much recoil, in a bad situation. So it's down to the Shield or the Speed Six, IMHO.

YMMV, you may have had entirely different luck, with Taurus.

For me, I would pick what I shoot best.

That means No the revolvers because I'm just not good enough with DA to consider it the best choice for me.

Having said that, the Shield first because I'm familiar with it and the Taurus is next because I'm not.

To me, the size of the Taurus isn't an issue as I carried a M&P 9c for years. It's just a lack of 1st hand use familiarity, and thus confidence, issue.
