One of my Gen3 Glocks that I have carried a lot over a period of about 7 or 8 years has some noticeable wear on one side of the grip, at the bottom front corner of the grip. This is not just surface wear, as a noticeable amount of the polymer material has actually been worn away. This can be seen in the photos below, by the thinner grip wall on the bottom right-hand side of the mag well compared to the left-hand side. I'm not really too concerned about it in its current condition, but wonder if it would eventually wear all the way through the grip at this location (I don't see why it wouldn't considering how it's worn thus far). I almost always carry IWB, on the right-hand side (I'm right-handed), around the 4:00 to 4:30 position, and in between an undershirt and whatever regular outer garment I'm wearing; nothing out of the ordinary or overly abrasive.

Has anybody else experienced this much wear on a polymer framed gun just from regular carry conditions over a long period of time? Any other thoughts?

Isnt melted the cool thing to do now-a-days??

Mine look like snaggle toothed sharks in the magwell...

Hard for me to understand how it can wear so much in that spot with a magazine in the gun.

The mag base plate should be taking all the rubbing off of the edge of the mag well.

The corner of the grip where the wear has occurred is basically flush with the outside of the mag baseplate. The corner of the mag baseplates also have some wear, more so just smoothed out a little, but I don't always carry the same mag so no single mag has been subjected to as much.

Condition 7. It's the new thing for safety. Empty gun in holster. Magazine in trunk of car. :D

No worries. If it wears through, send to Glock and get a new frame for $80. I doubt it'll get much worse.

Just thinking out loud here, but do you sit at a desk with your handgun on you? I don't carry a handgun at work (state law -- I'm a teacher), but I get wear on my cellphone holster from the arms of my desk chair.

Yes, it's always on me, including while I'm sitting at my desk at work. However it doesn't contact the arms of the desk chair, it's too far behind my hip for that.

That's a new one on me, only thing I could think of is some sort oh jewelry or a ring rubbing when you shoot it. Like a pinky ring.

I have a Gen4 G19. I just looked at my Glock. There is a small edge that extends past the magazine. Holster wear is common if you actually carry the pistol. I have an old charter 357 mag. It is very hard to see it but the nickel is wore off one side of the grip frame were something rubbed it. The previous owner was a LEO who carried the Charter on his ankle. Otherwise the pistol only has the obligatory ring on the cylinder. I wish Charter still made pistols like that. The old model Charter is more like a light SP101 with a 3" barrel. I won't buy the new Charter pistols at any price.

Going back to your Glock if you have a proper holster that holds your pistol high and tight your Tshirt could cause that small amount of wear. My holster holds my pistol above my hip so I can carry it comfortably at 3 O'clock. I could see my Tshirt wearing on that spot on the stock of my Glock. I just got my G19 in April. I have not had it long enough for any holster wear to be visible.

Tenifer is bare metal.
It is a clear carburizing process and has no color at all.

The black finish in a Glock is basically black Parkerizing applied on top of the Tenifer.

When it wears off, the gun is not black any longer,
But the Tenifer is still there doing what it does.
