Opinions needed! I load my 58 on a stand and use the lever on the gun to seat my ball. Should I be removing my cylinder and use a loader like Duncun is wanting to build? I'm planning on buying an extra cylinder, just for convience. I know y'all have a bunch more guns than me, (right now:D ), and I can see if you have alot of guns to load...it would come in handy! I'm just not sure if I'll wear out or bend the loader on my gun. Thanks ahead of time:)

Tess, The older guns had a not so good loading ram and some people had problems with them but that's not the case today. I have loaded well over 3,000 rounds in one of my .44 Remington using the .454 ball and the big conicals and the ram is as solid as the bay I bought it.
The bench loading tool is just convenient for some people and for people like you and I who have the extra cylinder it saves you the time of removing your loaded cylinder to load your spare but I never found that to be a problem because the first one I loaded goes in my pouch and the second one stays in the gun after loading. I use a loader for the cylinders off the gun, i view the stock rammer included with gun as a field convenience only.

The Ruger, probably never worry about OR wear out, Italian metallurgy is if ya want ta be kind, 'suspect' so that screw the rammer pivots on and related linkage will wear/break. Matter of fact, one of the little .31 pocket Remmies tore right through the rammer on first loading out wandering around plinking, cut my hand pretty good in the process!

Of course, usual disclaimer, your milage my vary and your rammer assembly might be the good one that escapes every now and then by accident!

Will try and make some pictures of the big arbor press loader the local 'Smith makes, he gave me the prototype to use, one ton press with enough power to load 100 grains in a Remmie if'in ya wanted! :)

Thanks...I haven't had any trouble yet with loading the cylinder while in the gun...but I sure didn't want to take any chances. I put 35 & 40 grs. of Goex BP in her today. I really want to get used to that load. I like to deer hunt with my revolvers, and from what I've read from you all...40 grs at 25-30yds is suitable. I may purchase a loader later...I really like to load with the stand, I get a good feel on the amount of pressure I apply. Peppering snow here in central IN...very pretty, and the smoke is just hanging in midair. Lots a fun!
