I have a Weatherby SVM in 7/08 and I plan on bedding it with MarineTex. Now this rifle has the B&C stock with the full-length aluminum bedding block. I've done a few Rems with the aluminum bedding block, so I familiar with that. What I'm wondering about is bedding the recoil lug seeing that the mounting bolt goes into it, do I leave clearance on the bottom of it or not?

Any other bedding tips for a Weatherby would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Not to sound stupid (and I know that I'm not answering your question) but given the aluminum pillar bed of the B&C stock, why would you feel the need to bed the action further?

I'm not trying to hijack the thread - I really want to learn what I'm missing.

In the owners manual with this rifle they tell you how to reinstall the action when tightening up the mounting bolts and in the process your suppose to center the barrel in the forearm while doing the tightening. Problem is they have pressure points built in near the tip of the forearm and they keep the barrel in the center. This is a heavy barreled rifle and I think the barrel should float, so I sanded out those pressure points. Now you have to hold the barrel centered or it will be off to one side or the other, hence the need for bedding.

Yes-no??

Ah. My manual forbade the sanding down of those blocks or the SubMOA warranty was null and void, and I never had cause to try it.

But back to your question - as best I understand things, the aluminum pillar should be in firm contact with the bottom of the recoil lug when everything is snugged down. Getting bedding in between the lug and the pillar sounds counter-productive....

It doesn't have pillars though, it has a bedding block. The whole action sits in this aluminum block. If you say it has to be in contact with a pillar and the recoil lug is not touching the bottom of this bedding block now, then I should bed the bottom of the recoil lug too. If I put Marine Tex in there, the recoil lug will squezze it out when a guy puts the action back in the stock and the Marine Tex will fill any void under the recoil lug. Yes-No?

You must have a wood stocked Weatherby, is there any bedding under the recoil lug?

Thanks.
