Pax

I bookmarked that rascal right away.

I've got a bunch of reading to do, and then I'm gonna send it to a bunch of friends, male and female.

It is something has has been needed for a long time.

Great job, Don't stop now!!

First off, let me say the site looks great, and I wholeheartedly support what you're trying to accomplish with it. Good concept, and well-executed.

Now for some constructive suggestions:
1. For a complete newbie, that's a pretty intimidating amount of information. I showed it to my wife and her first question was "Where do I start with all of this?" I think a suggested step-by-step sequence (which articles to read in which order) for the completely new shooter would be really helpful.

2. As mentioned in the previous post, you need to change the title on each page so it displays (and bookmarks) correctly. For example, on your Index page, the current title is "Index". You need to get into the HTML (since you're building with FrontPage, you can easily access it with the 'code' tab at the bottom of the main window) and change that from this:
Code:
<title>Index Page</title>
to this:
Code:
<title>The Cornered Cat - Index</title>

I'd suggest doing that with the title of every page, so if someone bookmarks a specific article it will still be plain that it's located on your site.

3. I do a lot of graphic and image work for various websites. It's just a hobby - not something I charge for or anything. If you'd like a custom banner or some buttons or pictures for the site, please let me know. I'd be more than happy to help out.

Can you add some links to holster makers who specialize in holsters for women and some of the better companies selling holster purses? Or did I miss that?

'Card ~

1.) Not sure how to fix that, but you're probably right. Going to have to stew for awhile to figure out an ideal file arrangement for that.

2.) Will do. Good input.

3.) I may take you up on that down the road. Not this week or next though! :)

Trebor ~

That's the plan eventually, but I've set it on the back burner for now simply because I have personal experience with far fewer manufacturers than are out there. I want to make a lot of resources available, but really don't want to recommend stuff I haven't tried. Trying to find a balance between those two in my mind before I build that page.

Meanwhile, on the "how do I hide this thing" page, there are links to Galco & Coronado, and will be links to other mfgrs when I've finished building the article itself. Probably should gather up all those links & put them on a separate resource page.

And that's what's killing me here. This thing started out as a modest little undertaking, but it keeps growing ... :D

Pax,

What can I say?

I liked it so much I have already sent the link to some women shooters I know.

I especially liked the part on what guns for men.

Oh and the $64,000 question, what a hoot.

Keep up the good work.

Whoever wrote "Christianity: Trusting God and Self Defense" did a great job.

And I agree with it completely.

Pax, nice site! My wife enjoyed reading it over my shoulder! :D Even for those with some shooting experience, it is reassuring to hear they are on the right track in learning to shoot, picking out firearms, child safety, etc. I'm glad the kid safety is placed so prominently on the page. We have a 10 month old and have developed a safety/education plan for him. I'm a stickler, no toy guns or no water guns in the house. Just like nipple confusion in an infant, I don't want him to be confused between a toy and the real thing. I think it's safer if everything is considered "real" until the child is old enough to know the difference. Good job!

I think one of my friends wants to interview you for her radio show, Pax. If a nice lady named Pam calls you, that's why. She really liked your site.

Before your site gets censored.

You might avoid some of those taboo words the industry leaders include in default site blocks. I would not want anything indicating the site is of ill repute because sym_ant3c says so. And yes I misstyped that purposefully.
I ran into a frozen system managed to block the word "weapon". This was at the YMCA so a novice may be in charge there. The URL name can likely be added to blocked sites lists for the place I work at just for some PCincorectness inherent in honest publications like this.
I could be wrong but this site is gonna spread by word of mouth a long way.

I am gonna get into so much trouble.

Added: Gotta remember this is for the children!

Great Site Pax.

My only suggestion right now is regarding the links on the welcome page. The "cornered cat" link at the bottom of the page is more predominant than the little "enter" hidden in the corner.

I would suggest rearranging to make the "enter" link much more predominant.

I'll give it a read and send it to my wife as well.

Thanks again for the kind words, everyone. :)

Distra ~ If you stick with that, when he's big enough to want water guns, consider buying plant misters instead. They hold more water than the traditional types (less than the big supersoakers though) and squirt further too.

Barbara ~ That's gotta be the scariest post I've read in weeks.

txgho1911 ~ Naw, I guess I'm unwilling to do that one. It's what the site's about after all -- and folks can always surf from home instead of work.

mr_dove ~ Good input, and done.

Browsed around no problem with the latest firefox, looks like it'll be a great resource to refer women to in the future.

It's not scary. She was really impressed with it and the show isn't huge, although its nice. It's called "Back Yard and Beyond" and is a combination of hunting, farming, gardening, crafts, conservation, etc. I hope you do it because I'll get to hear it. :)

Nice effort Pax! We are currently doing many of the things you suggest with our own kids in regards to firearms safety & training. I found your page from Lawdog's blog.

What a great page, Pax! I'll be linking it from my site. Well-written, with a nice sense of humor. I've only had a few minutes to skim through, but the advice for men is classic:

Dry fire while pointing the gun at her cat. Or at the TV. You get bonus points if you accidentally shoot the TV while she is in the room.

Oh, one more thing: her fashion sense is better than yours. If she says a flashy gun is pretty, don't argue. It's not a pimp gun if a woman is wearing it.

And I had forgotten about Tamara's classic Incredible Shrinking FBI Round thread!

This is a great site, with alot of really solid information. Great work!

Pax, awesome site. I sent it to my sister; recently married, husband owns guns, she wants to learn, baby on the way; it completely applies to her. I think it'll be a good way for her to learn about guns at her own pace from a woman and mother who is also a shooter. I really enjoyed the Christianity and guns sections. It's something I've oft debated with myself and come to similar conclusions; good to see concurrent and well reasoned thoughts. The mix of humor, anecdote, and serious detail flows very well. Not only an excellent site for its content, but also very nice in your literary style. Keep up the good work.

Pax great site.

My wife shoots and instead of me sending her dozens of little threads over the last year it would have been great to just send her that one (stil am anyway, even though she's more experienced).

I am sending it to a couple of friends interested in learning to shoot (M and F)

I look forward to checking it periodicly as it develops.

Here are two GREAT links I always send to new shooters, should you add a seperate links page.

I also know the author of the grip tutorial on the first, I'm sure he would give you permission to reprint or use the pictures.

FlaChief ~

Thanks for those. Today I got my links page (mostly) up, but need to go back through because I know I've forgotten someone!
