I'm getting married here in a couple of weeks. EEK!! I better get to packin up all my stuff.

Anyway I"m getting her a Stainless SR40c as a wedding gift and am getting myself a Rock Island Compact in 45. Yes I realize these are not anything special but it's what we both want. There's a local shop that does laser engraving and I'd like to have my family's brand engraved on the slides with our wedding year on them. My question is, if I do this, what do I need to the guns to keep them from rusting where they were engraved?

That's an awesome Idea!!

I think the SR40 would be OK since it's stainless and not really finsihed, but the gold would work really well on the Rock Island.

On a side note I did pick up the SR40c today. No one in town had one in stock, Cabelas about an hour away had one for 499!! Good grief that's a lot. Then finally I stopped at the gun range. Super nice guy and his son run it. He didn't have one but asked why all the sudden I wanted a 40. Told him it was for the wedding gift and says, I have one, it's mine, I'll sell you that one. I didn't really want used but he pulled it out and it's covered in grease yet. Never fired. 419 plus tax out the door. I felt bad but he said "I'm a gun dealer. I can buy another one." I've had a really good relationship with the guy and I just recently found out his sister lives above me in our apt complex.

Thanks for the idears.

Congratulations on your marriage!! :)

I disagree with your statement about the guns not being anything special...I'm thinking about replacing one of my .40's with a SR40c, and I've always heard good things about Rock Island.

Engraving is cool...

I couldn't have given my wife a gun for our wedding, but she did get me pistols a couple of times for Christmas. (Actually, I bought them and said "this is what you're giving me for Christmas.")
