My passion is the featherweight rifles and if I had to choose one of these it would be the bottom rifle. Looks like it was made about 1955 and would probably be a 30-06. 270 Winchester or 308 Winchester. The reasons I like it is that the blue looks good and the stock is standard grade quarter sawed Missouri walnut. I'm not a collector so the stock needs a Pachmayr decelerator recoil pad and McMillan sling swivel cups.

I have always been fond of the Winchester M70 but not as fond of the 700. I cannot tell you why as I have nothing against the 700 other than maybe a better aesthetics of the M70 - a busier action that looks kind of retro. Again, I have zero knocks against the 700 - I have always just been attracted to the M70.

That's because you're a man of taste and refinement

Nature Boy, you flatter the messenger with your wisdom and kindness but nonetheless, I am just the humble messenger for engineering greatness that of which is indeed the Winchester Model 70!

In the last three years I have sold:
.264 WM Featherweight 1961
30-06 Featherweight 1952
.243 Rifle 1955
.270 Rifle 1951 (My first Hunting rifle given to me in 1964 with a 4x Unertl Hawk scope)
243 Featherweight 1959

I still have a :
.243 Varmint with a big old 6-24 Balvar variable
.308 Featherweight 1957 with 2-8 Leupold Varix3 with Boone and Crockett reticule
.264WM "Westerner " rifle 1960 with 4.5-14 Leupold Vari x3
.375 H&H Super grade 1955 with Lyman Iron sights
.458 WM 1956 African with three leaf sights factory

The remaining rifles I have are gonna be real hard to give up, I don't shoot the .458 since first I got it a few years ago along with the .375 from an old safari guy's estate . I hunt with another .375 , at least I did in 2019 elk season.
The .264 Westerner got me my last of 20 years of antelope in 2019 .It really reaches out . The .243 hasn't been varminting with me in 20 years , it was a windy day varmint gun and is heavy ! The .308 Featherweight is a tack driver (but I have a Harry Lawson .308 that Is MY little rifle) and one of my son will get it after he moves to Oregon this coming spring. Possibly the .243 Varmint also for the 12 year old grandson .

The market is currently down for Pre 64 Model 70s , but their quality is not coming back again. Maybe the coming Chinese Masters will buy them , they could kill cattle with the Safari Guns and my family could survive a nuclear winter :(
