well I got my cold day!

Well before I got through town the pager went off and there was a giant tree across the road taking down the power lines. By the time it was cleaned up and power restored there were other trees down in the road between me and the range. I tried to get there and gave up just now as the road to the range has about 5 big spruce down so no power and walking a couple miles in 12* weather just to shoot is not worth it for my 60+ year old bones just now. Seriously doubt that I will be hunting if it is that cold anymore either. Rather be sitting around the wood stove lying a little about what I used to be able to do.

You made the right decision to go home. You can shoot when things warm up.

I stayed up in my detached garage as the temperature went to "minus 8". I wasn't shooting. I was just enjoying the quiet solitude. I had endured these kinds of temperatures when I was a teenager and I thought I was still good. I was well-layered and didn't feel cold. But by the time I made it back to the house, I could barely walk. I fell down in the living room and my wife struggled to get me back up. I am in the "doghouse" now for scaring her. I made the wrong decision, you made the right one.
